Devon louvre windows

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by PercyB, Feb 14, 2013.

  1. My Devon louvre windows are draughty even when closed; the wind whistles between the window panes. There is a plastic sheath fixed to the edge of each pane, have these worn out; can I get replacements and from where; or do I have to resort to draught excluder which isnt easy on the eye.

    Any suggestions gratefully received

  2. I have never come across any replacement parts so thin draught excluder strip bodge might be only option.

I just replaced my louvre with a slider cos of the draughts.

    Cheers

  3. I'm not sure there should be anything between the pains of glass , mine have no seals between the louvers , the glass fits one on top of the other and it has never been draughty . By putting a seal between the pains you will be straining the mechanism , i think.

My PO put draft excluder on the bottom edges of each pane, which he said was a b#gger to do, but I don't see why. I think it works ok, but doesn't look great and as Bugcatcher says it might be solving a problem that doesn't exist!

I was intrigued enough to check out the original Moonraker brochures (from the Katie's Kombi's web pages) and although the photos aren't clear there doesn't appear to be anything in the louvres.

  7. My PO also added self-adhesive foam draft excluder between the panes. However, it's now falling to pieces so I'm going to try without it and see if there's a problem!

  8. Thanks for the feedback there are definately plastic sheathing on the edges of each pane of glass, and definately a draught so I will probably go with the draught excluder.

    Thanks again

  9. My windows have a plastic edging on them that seal against the next piece of glass and they were just sat on the glass but kept coming off and they were very draughty without them so I put a couple of spots of glue on them to hold them in place and they are draught free now :)

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

How about a pic so those without can see what they haven't got? :)

  11. I will when it is a bit lighter, I haven't been near the van so couldn't get a pic at the time :)

  12. This is the profile of the ones I have and they fit like this hope they are of help no idea where they are from as they came with the van

  13. There should be thin, transparent seals (as per pic) on each window pane. I got a length of seal of the right type from Status VW (I think) yonks ago, which seals them nicely. Not sure if they still sell them. Could use draught excluder, but it looks a bit crappy.

  15. You should have a very thin plastic filler that the slats sit against. I cleaned all my frame up, including those (in situ) but have lined all the alloy facing with Fablon type material which has a velour coating (basically hairy fablon!) Looks like a fine felt material. Cut the strips and just stuck them on (self adhesive) no more draughts plus it reduced the rattles too. You cant see if as I stuck it under the windows.

  16. It appears my windows are also missing that little clear strip

  17. Actually mine might be westy rather than Devon??
