Install took a bit longer than expected, however reasonably happy so far. Importantly brakes seem fine off one servo take off. Bell crank linkage did me skull in for a wee while and confused me greatly as you put the carb with the vaccum take off on the right and not the left as the throttle arms are at the front of the engine near the fire wall! (only way of doing it but shouldnt make any difference). Good stuff - progression from tickover smooth and pulls away on very little throttle, acceleration similar to my progressive to around 45 ish in 3rd then just keeps going. Yet to have aproper drive as want to check a few thigs before going for a proper drive but pulls to 60 in third no problem (no I wont be doing that a lot). Bad stuff - On a short road seems a bit short of gas at around 65 to 70 in top but didnt boot it for much longer. Dont think throttle opens all the way - even with a bit of bending on the peadl stop. On decelleration theres some detonation sounded like carb but not sure (ie a thud not a bang). This likely to be the float hight? Anyway - more to do and check over but just come in for a brew.
before I get told off for the fuel line and filter this is just temporary as needed to get van on rmps to do the fuel line connection!
Mmmm. Dells. You may have inspired me to actually take mine out of the box in the garage and slap them on.
You are both are quite annoying. If I had a set they'd have been fitted without even putting the box down. I think it may be time to sell the dinghy double decker road trailer. @Dicky you need a rev counter, as you say Dells will keep accelerating. Something ICT's seem to fall short on.
Looks good ..what I found with mine is that when you switch off you get a massive amount of heat travel up the fanimolds and boil the fuel off in the carbs unless you have the 5 mm tufnol / Bakelite gaskets ... The carbs don't look like they match the tops of the manifolds or is that gaskets ? Looks sweet tho
Heard of that before. Had some of them but cant find em. If I have the issue I will look at doing it! Manifold castings do extend beyond the carb. shouldnt be an issue.
Good thing is you now don't need a fuel gauge, the air filters allow you to hear how much fuel you're guzzling
I don't have a bell crank but shouldn't the pivot be in line with the van body front to back when at rest? Looks like the way you have it you won't get the full travel as required?
Im not sure exactly what you mean but I do need to look at this as im nowhere near full throttle. I know I will be able to nick a bit by tidying up any slop but Im not even close at the moment. The throttle rods from the pivot are at their standard length and as they are left and right hand threads there is some adjustment fine adjustment but only to ensure boths sides are sychronised as they open. Not sure how I would modify this but was going to move the cable to come through the tinware more to the center so its pulling in a straight line. This should give more movement for the same distance of cable travel (is this what you meant). If youve got a photo of yours it would help tremendously. Thanks for the comment btw you are spot on but as I say not entirely sure what the full solution is.
In your photo the rest position is at 10 to 5. Therefore will this not limit the travel? I would have thought it should rest at 6 o clock and when the carbs are open fully it will sit at quarter to 3. Im sure I read somewhere that for a type 4 application you had to buy longer tie rods for it to work as the ones on the market are actually for the type 1 and sit further forward of the crankcase in order not to foul the fan shroud? Or maybe I'm talking out of my arse? I don't have a bell crank
