  1. My bungs were long gone. I think the thing had just corroded in. I decided not to push my luck...

Indeed, I'll only try so hard. Rattle gun might shift it - you go first.

I made something similar, a manometer isn't it? I've got a photo of it in action somewhere.

One of mine, number two cylinder intake, was seized but never bothered to sort it. Much to my chagrin as that cylinder dropped an exhaust guide and I had to replace the head. The next time it went a valve drop put the con rod through the case and smashed the cam shaft.
So now I have a 127 engine with 40 solexes fitted as per the factory.
I've still got the Dells but dare not fit them.
Goes well enough for me in with it's present spec.

Same old, same old. It is quiet isn't it!
It's a sleepy backwater, chipping coots and the odd snorting swan...

This is what I did to the manifold set up. Only had one take off for the brake servo and no balance pipe as recommended by Geoff Thomas at Autocavan in the day.

Cheers Nick. Looks simple and clean enough :)

A question on the wideband sensor…. I currently have a twin silencer exhaust, so the exhausts from either side of the engine never mix…. Is it alright that the sensor will only read the values from one side? Guess otherwise the options are to tap both manifolds and blank one off, so I can change and monitor one at a time… or fit a single silencer so I can measure them mixed. How have others set it up?
    Cheers

I'd just use one side as you should find the other is identical with the same jetting.

  13. Sum-up: I'd knock your vents down to 28 (could try 30s first), solder up your emulsions, and knock your idles down to mebbe 57? Then you're sorted (first pass at least).

Howdy folks… my wideband AFR sensor arrived…. The manual says “avoid cutting or extending the harness” … which I guess I take with a pinch of salt but advance with caution.

I’ve read up on a few forums etc and there is tons of conflicting info, from….. ‘the O2 sensor is incredibly sensitive and extending the harness will result in a false reading’ to ‘don’t use copper wire or a wire of a different gauge because it will alter the reading’ to ‘I just extended it with normal copper wire and it didn’t affect my readings’

What cables did you use Jed // anyone else whose done this?
Does it matter which part I extend? ( The wires between sensor and connector, or. The wires between the connector and the gauge. )

    as always, massive thanks.

Hopefully I have everything I need now… I’m going to modify the manifold and exhaust tomorrow and then the fun can start

IIRC I used tow bar cable. I think the heater is 1.2A so not outrageous.

The instructions for mine say to avoid cutting or extending the sensor harness. But later in the same instructions under "Troubleshooting" it says...
Can I extend the wires in my sensor harness?
Yes, but use of at least 20AWG and proper crimping/soldering techniques is required.

I extended between gauge and sensor loom (the long one) so I could change the sensor if it broke as the sensors come with a short loom and plug all as one piece.

The PLX devices AFR meter came with an extender on that plug. Basically you can extend it OK, really its just the heater that has potential voltage drop issues.

The PLX devices one came with about 2 metres to a computer box then a 3 metre cable to the dash, that only carries data and that one could be extended with 4 core burglar alarm cable .

And I have been through three sensors - one at 50k didnt like all the soot from too rich running .. started reading lean until driven fast for a good few miles, second one got smashed getting the engine out. ..third one good .. fortunately China supplies £25 sensors with different connectors but a bag of 3.2 mm female spade connectors fixed it.
