Funny thing is the Beetle fancy high revving engine crowd on Samba running similar sized engines would say the same as Eurocarb - They provide carbs and parts for all vehicles which are mostly cars, we fill a tiny part of the market with our heavy under-powered buses that require smaller vents etc so for that maybe it's understandable... but... really, by this time after decades they should make the distinction. I guess when all is said and done they just CBA for such a tiny proportion of their sales.

  2. thing is... as you know. Its expensive buying a new set up and even more so if its incorrect or doesn't even give you a starting point! Ive not looked yet but wonder how much of a market there is for vents in particular as like you ive got 30s 32s and the 34s of course. Thats a few bob there!

Time was that Volkszone was quite good for selling carb parts but it's not as busy as it used to be. They even had a Dell carb swapshop sticky but I see the last post was 6 months ago!

But the general parts for sale boards seems pretty busy so it might be worth listing them there - busier than this place anyway.

  4. I think it should actually be against the law to use anything other than 28mm venturis. I might start an online petition.

A couple of questions about plumbing these guys in….. the duel fuel inlets on each carb….. do i connect each of the smaller 8mm ones to the fuel line from the tank, and the bigger ones to each other?

and those 2 little brass pipes at the bottom of each carb (look similar to the vac advance) what are they? ….. I notice, Zed and Snotty, on the engine photos you posted, there is nothing going from them, so I presume that’s the way it should be…. is that right?

Thanks again. Just about to empty my wallet, and wanna make sure I’ve got everything I need to get started at least.

    cheers

  6. The four brass pipes (two on each side) are manometer ports, for balancing the carbs if you've got a four-way manometer kit. They should be shut tight in normal operation.

What fuel unions have you got - two double banjos? If yes, one should have a smaller connection on, which I believe was for the return line to the tank on Alfas. That needs to be bunged up (tapped M3 with an M3 grub screw in it is good), or you can get a single banjo. All the rest should be 8mm - fuel in from the pump to one, then out from the other connection to the fuel banjo of the carb on the other side.

  7. You'll also have two screw heads at the base of each carb: these are bleed ports for fine tuning/balancing. Screw them right in as a starting point (if they're not rusted solid). If you can't move 'em, leave 'em ;)

I’ve got this, is that useful?

    Thanks snotty

yeah I’ve got twin banjos on each carb…. Didn’t realise they were different but you are right, I think they are a bit big for 8mm hose though, maybe with some lube I could jam it on there but I dunno if the hose will appreciate it….. to use phallic expressions they measure 9mm at the shaft and 10mm at the head…. The one smaller one for the fuel return looks like a better fit

  9. Those banjos sound huge. Maybe they did different sizes. 8mm hose is good for Dells.

Could be. You can use it on one carb at a time to make sure each throat is equal, or pick a barrel on each carb to balance the carbs to each other.

  11. What was that fancy four-pipes-with-weights balancing fandango you found?

Yes it does, it's more accurate than a snail and was good for getting each barrel of the carb balanced. It was also interesting to see what a difference setting the mix screws makes. I wouldn't claim it's essential though. I'll be selling that too in the coming year.

  14. Did you tweak the bypass screws to get both halves of the same carb balanced?

One of mine was but luckily it was the other one that needed adjusting.

  18. Brilliant idea of Dell to use steel screws in an alloy casting...

I've tried the stuck one umpteen times over the years and as it was me that dug out the protective cover at least I know it's not stuck from some monkey over-tightening it. You and I were never intended to touch them - factory setup then sealed.
