On my trip to Wales yesterday it became ever more apparent that the lack blowers on the windscreen is an issue when it's cold outside. What does everyone else do? Is there a ready made solution to add fans and heat to screen vents?
We use a roll of kitchen paper. Obviously not ideal but it works, after a fashion. I'm hoping the problem disappears after I fit my new heat exchangers.
various ways to tackle the problem: make sure your heating system is leak free and in good nick insulate the ducting from HXs to front insulate the Y shaped plastic splitters that connect the totem to the demister outlets (under the dash) fit an inline bilge blower fan just after the reducer on the front cross member get hold of some original 'concertina' tubes....the new VW ones are utterly bobbins
I'm re jigging mine altogether....binning the concertinas, reducing the central tube to 75mm, fitting a straight thru silencer where the reducer is.... (no doubt melting the demister vents)
Mine works fine for demist. If there's a lot of mist / condensation, these type of chamois pad work well as they dry the screen without smearing it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/2309...ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=95&ff19=0
Type IV engines have an electric "snail fan" in the engine bay to help push the warm air up front. Dunno if you can fit one of these...?
Fitting opening 1/4 windows and leave them slightly open, the breeze across the screen seems to sort it out, does mean its a little colder but btter to see than be cold! OR Fit a heated windscreen, http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares...211845101HEAT_act_shop.product_pID_104044.htm costly and collection Only.
How do you find it? Have always thought about fitting one but being a bit of a fair weather driver dont really have the need for one.
I have even toyed with the idea of cutting a section from the top if the totem and mounting a handle-less 12v camping hair drier body with a switch on the dash so it pouts upwards at the vents. Does that sound too daft!?!
