when I turn on side lights the dashboard lights do not come on had speedo out and no power going to them can o move the wire to pick up on anther connecter as I think it's dimable would just like them on ????
THIS^ I changed all my dashboard bulbs as I thought they were kippered.......then @Rickyroo1 showed me the dimmer twist bit of the light knob. Thankfully his knob demonstration activities stopped there.
In that case and the dimmer section is knackered you should be able to tap into the wire leading to the side lights. Take the switch out and let it hang whilst you work out which is which, though somebody will be along in a minute to tell you.
You might have accidentally pulled the connector off the headlight switch, look for a bare spade - it's the smallest one. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
Get a head torch, every time you look at the dash it will magically light up And in normal driving conditions it makes a useful supplement to the headlights
Am I missing something? Which gauge does one actually need to see?? Fuel gauge is a guess Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
Only had the van 8 years normally not overly worried that I cannot see the speedo Just I have time to kill Wanted to get some of the jobs done that would normally be a .........one day I will do that Well that day is here
The grey/red wire with the smaller connector is the dash light wire; pull it off the terminal on the switch (58b). Chop the connector off and replace with a piggyback 6.3mm connector. Now pull the grey sidelight wire off terminal 58 and put the piggyback in its place. Then put the grey wire back on. This way the dash lights will come on with the sidelights but you won't be able to dim them. Hope that helps.
VW were going through their glow-worm-on-valium dash lighting period, I think. Early Polos were the same.
If you have decent clean bulbs, bulb holders and connectors the standard lights are bright enough and I can see why you would want a dimmer.
The dimmer gets broken when peeps try and unscrew the "knob". Crunch. There's a hole in the shaft that should be used with a drill or whatever stuck in it to hold the shaft against unscrewing the knob.
