My mrs has just gone out in her car and phoned me to say, every time she stops at a junction or traffic light the engine revs up. She's got to where she was going and said it smelt 'hot'. I'm guessing clutch on the way out, but can't explain the high revving when stopped with just the clutch and brake pressed. Can anyone explain this?
I did say that. But she assures me she wasn't. Would an air leak cause the FI to compensate by revving higher?
Anything is possible, but there's so much electronics in modern cars, it's not worth guessing. The engine ECU will tell you.
Just had a look. Most say what snotty suggested. If its electrical it'll throw up a code on the diagnostics. If no code then probably mechanical, clutch or throttle control valve.
Here is a random one for you, but the throttle cable might be sticking and a good cause of this can be a bad engine earth that means the engine is earthing through that cable and corroding it. I had something similar about 20 years ago in a Morris ital.
Does my head in!! The ESP system can start messing with the throttle control if an ABS sensor/mag ring starts playing up!!
She's just got home with no trouble. Clueless. Ill drive it to work tomorrow and see what the crack is.
i'm confused - you're clueless about the car you mean? or she's home with no trouble - that's a wonder, she's a woman.. or she's clueless - that's obvious, she's a woman. if anyone wants me i'll be stuck in the 70's telling mother in law jokes and wearing kipper ties.
