Daft question but garage floor paint?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Stan, Aug 26, 2014.

  1. Do you think garage floor paint would be durable enough for painting the chassis? I know it sounds daft but its supposed to be tough, stinks like hell and supposed to seal (concrete) so should be able to seal pinholes etc in the floor, once you have treated rust of course? Just the chassis paints, etc are so frickin expensive these days?
Looks like Aldi hammerite copy cheapest way to go....
Btw has anyone used the Tetroseal wax/oil treatment not Hammerite wax/oil?

  2. I wouldn't think it'd be much good, Stan. You'll regret it...

  3. I dont know either way just thinking out loud? Spent ages looking at paints for the chassis , the white smoothrite I painted my beetle floorpan in 1989 is still going strong! (Although its been laid up since 90!) ahem cough...
Tempted by that expoxy mastic paint but again so expensive?

  4. I've also been looking for some good chassis paint. I wouldn't trust Hammerite and (in my experience) POR 15 just falls off. I'm tempted to use the epoxy 121 all over.

  5. did I miss something? has stonechip suddenly stopped being made or gone out of fashion?

  6. Stonechip is rubbish...

They'll have taken out an ingredient that is harmful, and now it's pants

  7. Tetraseal is poor as it dries out and cracks
Ive used hammerite underbody seal with added waxoyl

  8. I can get you a jug of my old aunties best gravy, paint that on yer shirley bassey and your bus'll survive an h bomb
