The long block is now all done it is now a 1641 topped and tailed - it will run a progressive 32/36 webber carb and nicely detailed lots of very small bits and bobs - Thank you for the comments
ahh same as Gusbus, we've gone 1641 with a 32/36! The throttle cable linkage was not right, we had some major mods to do. We also have the JK stainless exhaust, sounds really good! cant wait to see Gladys done mate
Agreed - from experience you won't get onto the 2nd barrel without doing something. To save the mods being too excessive at either end of the cable, I lengthen the lever the cable attaches to at the front, and also shorten the fixing point on the lever on the carb. A great performance mod/repair when someone says their bus slows down down on the hills... Bus is looking great, good to see you're back on it.
It makes you wonder why a proper set up cant be manufactured, unless the carb is more popular on a type 4 set up
The front bit is a common thing to do after installing many aftermarket carbs. Easy peasy if you can weld, a right PITA stumbling block if you can't. Funnily enough I have one right here. For anyone reading and wondering about their own bus, this is the front bit the cable attaches to on an prototype bay, but the principle is the same whatever your linkage - find the bit that pulls the cable and make it longer.. The pedal presses the top leg, the cable attaches to the bottom leg. Both legs were the same length with one hole to start with. The row of holes on the extended leg for cable attachment gives some trial and error choice for how much cable the throttle pedal linkage will pull. Apologies for the threadjack Dale.
I have been playing with my old 32/36 as it was brilliant on my 1600 and although I like my ICTs I like to change things from time to time! I have made what I think is a brilliant solution to the linkage issue, reducing the movement and lowering the cable so it is not so angled! I will post up some pictures later today for you as only just finished it and its not painted yet! Basically I extended the linkage at the front several years ago to give more cable travel at he back and on ever quite guilt it right at the carb end in the past until now.....pics in a bit Likewise...sorry for thread hijack a little
Hi the modification I have done is in the photos below, easy to make and parts readily available from Eurocarb for the adjustable ball joint part but you could easily just use a non adjustable bit of mild steel bar. - Essentially just a bracket that bolts onto the carb and manifold and then a lever for the throttle and adjustable linkage from the carb spindle. - The throttle cable travel is only 2cm to get both carbs barrels fully open so you may not even need to adjust the front linkage here and I reckon you could use a standard cable as well Cheers Ben
A bit more progress i finished everything on todays to do list -- 12 jobs The engine detailing is well under way and starting to look ok still lots to do - The front indicators are all finished hard wired The heater controls are all shortened to suit the dash - !! one problem i cant remember what the set up is like anyone got a picture ?? many other little jobs but i wont bore you all so here are a few pics So i still need parts some very silly little bits Cab Door Handle to door skin plastic gasket the small one - 1 off 2 Bumper bolts - Black Door Mirrors - Or a pair I can paint Nice soft tailgate seal sliding door cover Gasket strip
I look forward to seeing the results on the alternator Im going to try and avoid polishing my ally parts on the engine as once you start you end up obsessed and polishing everything lol
