WANTED CRX50 Fridge

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by Dave Le Van, Mar 21, 2019.

  1. I'am still collecting parts for my '79 Bay and want to swap out my tired RM123 Fridge for a new
Dometic/Waeco CRX50 as i think they are roughly the same size.
I can't believe the price of these things!
Cheapest i can find is £529.99

Has anyone had any luck buying one for less than that?
I.e. Is it best to go to one of the Caravan shows to get one?

Hi depends on your current interior.

Mine is a Devon Moonraker and traditionally it had the rm123 fridge fitted within its unit. Mine hadn’t got a fridge. When I started looking at the waeco crx50 fridges on measuring up, it was just too deep and it wouldn’t fit into my cupboard.

I opted for a CRP40 I think, (it’s still in the box lol). It has a relocatable compressor allowing you to unclip it from the fridge and secure it remotely ie into an adjacent o smaller cupboard. This is my intention and will have the fridge in the main cupboard, but locate the compressor in the gas cupboard.

  3. Thanks for the advise Julian.
Mine is an original Super Viking conversion so iam hoping it will be a direct replacement.

  4. The CRX50 is much deeper than the Rm122/3 . You'll find it sticks out the front of the unit by 30-40 mm , fine if you don't mind . They need better air circulation as well so I put vents in the cabinet walls at the back near the fan .
£530 is a good price, you'll struggle to find one cheaper , even at a show ...

  5. £521.56 at JK at the moment is the cheapest I've found.

Been looking myself, don't mind it sticking out a bit as it's going to be better than my current setup.

  6. They do come up on ebay if you're patient. I got a new one for £350.

  7. Have you a Viking as well?
So the back bottom of the crx50 will be hard up against the wheel arch and still sticks out?
    Is that what you mean?

  8. Is that with a discount code? I see it as £549

  9. No , i haven`t a Viking , in fact it`s `homebrewed` interior

I had a `newish` RM122 in before which was great but with loads of work going into the van i bit the bullet and bought the CRX which got rid of the gas fridge exhaust on the side . Not a massive reason to spend silly money on a fridge but it was the right time :)

    :hattip:

I think last techenders we measured your new (at that point unfitted) CRX50 fridge against my RM123, didn’t we? Worked out that when I have to replace it, the new one will be fractionally wider, and a couple of inches more sticky outy :)

  12. I have a super viking. Also looking for a new fridge. The rm123 is still available to buy isn't it? It's the only one that I've found that fits the super viking hole.

Although, I won't mind if I end up with one that sticks out a little, if it's a little bigger inside too.

  14. What a brilliant write up! I'm gonna do this. I removed all the gas from mine, just cos I'm not confident with that. And the electrical side worked ok'ish for a while, but now seriously struggle. So am now going to leave it upside down for 24 hours, and if it works, will do a full dismantle job, as you've done. Great work!!

  15. Great write up!
Iam in the process of a full restoration of my Viking and have set my heart on a CRX50 for extra capacity and hope to fit solar power.
So with that i have already welded up the side Gas vent hole together with the floor holes (the latter maybe a mistake, but i'd rather have a sealed bottom!).

Love the work you have done on replacing the 'wood' on the units, iam considering doing the same during my rebuild using the original cabinets as a pattern.
    Any tips/pics/threads on this?

I didn’t do the interior personally but got a friend to do it and he used the old units as templates and also modified it a bit.

  18. That looks superb jules65. Especially the rounded off edges of the boot cupboard bits. Does your mate travel? Anywhere near Essex?
