Cruising speed

  1. I have 1700 and seems to want to sit at 55-60 !! My first long journey in my bus I let my bus tell me how fast to go !! They seem to sit at the sane speed and sit happy !! I tend to pop into services for 5/10mins every 70/80 miles just to feel the fan house and oil dip stick

  2. 1600. 55-60 on a long run and on a good day hope to touch 30mpg

My old 1600 happily sat at 65-70 all day long.

  7. Really good point about getting stuck amongst the lorries. I'm new to these vans and to driving at lower speeds. 60 odd on the motorway seemed comfortable but it wasn't nice getting hemmed in by huge artics. Too many of them love a close rear end view, plus of course there's the overtaking at 2mph faster than your van is going. It was then when I felt the relative instability of the front end....as the high sided beasts drove by.

  8. my old 1600 happily sat at 85+ virtually all the way back from Cornwall....and then didn't do much of anything after that

I drove mine fairly hard for 8 years.
If they're well maintained and you keep an eye on things, there's no need to play with artics at 55mph.
The mpg is fairly woeful whatever you do.

i sit at about 60 just so i don't get in the way of lorries etc if on motorways, occasionally 65-70 if i feel like it but you need to watch the gauges if you're gonna maintain a high speed, i find i can ignore most things except the wife and fuel gauge if i sit at 60.

  14. I've only got a speedo and fuel gauge . Would it be worth investing in an oil temp gauge ?

being a 3 speed auto my rev range may be different - have you calculated this?

    Its subjective.
I'd say its unnecessary, others will dis-agree.

i have a cylinder head temp gauge - or "worry gauge" as they call them oil temp gauge is nice to have - it just depends on knowing your van, if my van didn't have it fitted before i got it, would i fit one? no.

  19. unless you spend big bucks on a calibrated gauge and sender you're wasting your money IMO
