crew cab rear seat and pedestal

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by *Lethal*, Feb 9, 2018.

  1. I'm confused.

I have a rear seat base and pedestal for the crewie. The seat isn't right for the base and I'm trying to identify them so I can look at either modifying the pedestal or sourcing the correct base for the pedestal.

looking on the samba I think the seat base I have (with the hump) is potentially split/ EB
    and the pedestal is correct?

anyone in the know that can point me in the right direction please?

  2. The base looks to be correct , the seat is definitely not correct ! IMG_5640.JPG IMG_5537.JPG

  3. legend, thanks for the quick reply. I may well just modify the pedestal to fit the base as the seats have been reupholstered in the last few years or so. Ill have a mooch

  4. NOOOOO ! I'd be tempted to leave the pedestal base as is, they could be rare ! plus I think cutting it would weaken it .
i'd give finding a seat base a good go first .

  5. That looks like a beetle rear seat base & back but can't be sure, do you have a pic of the seat end?

  6. No! I am wrong & that doesn't happen often!!

  7. I found a thread. on the samba, it just confused me even more. If I had to modify it, It would be reinforced. Ill fire off a few emails and see If I can find a rear seat.

  8. You could let me have your pedestal and then make your own bespoke one to accommodate your unique seat base;)

Seriously though, I agree with @GONA66 and would preserve the pedestal as I have been looking for one for over a year and not seen one for sale yet!

My 75 rear seat pedestal looks the same as yours. The bottom part of the seat itself is different however.

The lower bit of the seat has a pin either side that fit in metal cups on the pedestal. This is what keeps the seat in place.

What part of the world are you in ?

You may be close to another crewie ?

  10. im nr peterborough. This has the pins at the back that do just about fit into the metal cups on the pedestal.

FBI VW suggest my seat base is for a split front bench seat and will have a look to see if they've got a seat in , in the week.
The Samba suggests split crew cab rear seat base.

Either way, Im content the pedestal is correct , I just hope that If I source a seat base , that the back rest isn't then wrong as well

  11. The only place Ive seen them so far is the Samba, A guy in the US is making pretty decent copies. all be it they are not cheap but he does post worldwide. I should think they'll end up being near 800 posted 0_O

It looks similar to a t25? @Flakey may know. If so I have a full set in the garage but would need re-covering.

The seat base looks like an EB Split item, if it is the seat base will also fit a pre 60 split front flat bench seat and is quite valuable

Does that price include the backrest, if so theres a bloke on the SSVC after one, he may split the cost

  19. it is literally the metal pedestal on its own. the guy on the samba makes both the bay and split pedestals though. BUT there is someone on SSVC who is selling repro seat frames incl springs that look decent.

I would stick with your original pedestal, another option is to bend one in tube weld mesh it and gt it upholstered, its easy I did one for the bendy seat that you have before they were repro'd
