CPAP Advice

  1. its more about what the inverter takes due to losses really! hard to say now!

I think so - give it a go - whats the worst that can happen! Giz a shout Monday and let me know if I was wrong!

  2. I advise you to connect it all up with an ammeter in line between the inverter and leisure battery, and a voltmeter across the battery terminals, and measure the current draw. Then you know 100% for sure what it's drawing, not what it should draw.
Do that until it stops running- i.e. until it's reached the minimum voltage it'll run at. that's usually around ten volts.

    Example:

So say it draws 2A, and turns off at 10 V.
    12V-10V=2V drawn before shutdown

12/2=6. You can use one sixth of the battery before shutdown

    70Ah battery divided by 6= 11.7 Ah

    2A draw

    11.7/2= 5.85 Hours.

This way, you'll KNOW exactly how long it WILL last for, not how long it SHOULD last for. I'm not a doctor, I don't know how serious it is if this stops working and you're in the Himalayas. So I take no responsibility :)

For reference, this is my go using the "should" data. I don't trust the numbers supplied to me, and I don't trust the maths I've done. But if anyone wants to point out any errors, I'd be curious. I'd like to know more about this stuff.

Can you not borrow another leisure battery to take as a spare?

  4. One of two things happen if it goes wrong..................
    I wake up
    Or
    I don't

  5. It`s a no brainer . Get hook up or forget about a weekend away ...

  6. This^ not worth the risk in my eyes.

Order the 12 volt adaptor and get a solar panel aswell. Use over night and let the sun charge it up the next day for another nights sleep

  7. I have a ResMed CPAP and they EAT leisure batteries. Mine is a 110 Ah leisure battery and you are lucky to get three nights when its new, two when its a bit older. It will work fine with a normal Ring inverter but to try and eke out a bit more life I ordered the genuine ResMed 12v car adapter from the USA and it wasn't much better. I ended up buying a second 110Ah battery just for my CPAP. Thats the main reason I now have solar. I installed 200w of panels with a 20 amp MPPT and we have no need of hook up probably March to November and can camp indefinitely. Thats CPAP every night, lights on, blower for heater, charging stuff, you name it.

I reckon a 70 Ah leisure will be fine for one night and then the voltage will drop too low for the inverter.

  8. I'm still alive after night one! 1200-0630
I'm definitely going to sort solar however it's beyond my capabilities.
Normally I hook up but here at Caldwell park there isn't any hookups they strung me along till the last minute (day before) saying they could sort something out, hence the last minute situation.
    Only tonight to go.

  10. Never fails to impress me how much knowledgeable advice you can get on here. Nice one!

  11. @Dicky spot on. I have got so much great advice on here - there is always someone who has done it before or has a good bit of insight. Proper nice community. @Robert Thomas solar is genuinely straightforwards to do. There are loads of good threads on here and people who will happily advise on bits to get, how to do it. I reckon these days you will get a pretty good 200w setup for under £300 if you fit it yourself.
