Covid deaths

  1. More cases at my sons school last week. He does a test twice a week and the wife and I do them twice a week also, they are staggered on different days. Fortunately we haven't had a positive test so far but I believe this will help us to know and hopefully if we get it not spread it.

  2. Another 3 adults have tested positive at the school have tested positive today..!

There are around 450 on site...
    in a primary school..

Yes we are. Usually after going to a crowded venue or on a Sunday before returning to work.

Neither of us have been told by our employers we must but it’s no big deal to do a test and it gives peace of mind for others.

  4. Just been reading this, instead of worrying about who wears a mask we should be directing our efforts at this issue.

  5. Whilst clearly an accomplished man, Dr Montgomery spends a lot of time talking to the media. This is from his Wikipedia entry. He likes to attract attention. Having pointed out earlier in the thread that smoking causes more deaths than COVID , perhaps the good doctor might direct his vilification to the causes of this worser affliction, or maybe not as he wouldn’t get on the telly if he did…and probably the academic grants would dry up ..

    Covid-19 Pandemic[edit]

Montgomery is an established and outspoken critic of people taking public healthcare risks during the Coronavirus pandemic. He aired his concerns publicly during the first wave of COVID-19 infections both in the UK and Australia. During these televised interviews he answered questions and issued advice on the subject.

During the UK's second wave of COVID-19 cases, in interviews with the BBC Radio 5 Live and Channel 4 news, Montgomery strongly criticized the public for not practising social distancing and wearing masks, declaring them as "having blood on their hands".

Smoking is on the wain and, unless I’m mistaken, not contagious.

  8. Perhaps increase in Tax for anti vax people…I mean smoking woodbines does bring in a bit of tax income
Even if it takes some of the NHS budget

I still do before I work in any elderly/vulnerable peoples homes, or if having family to stay.

I also do one if I’m feeling under the weather.

Stats show fewer and fewer people smoke in the UK, consequently the number of deaths is going down and in all likelihood that downward trend is going to continue. As for laughable nonsense about Professor Montgomery courting attention to “get on the telly”, what utter crap.

Incidentally, Sept 2020 to Aug 2021, 94000 deaths following a positive Covid test, that 11months but even if you stretched that out to Sept 2021 that still averages over 250 deaths a day. That’s figures from the ONS.

Edit: latest figures on ONS I could find for smoking deaths were for 2019, summat like 74k deaths attributable to smoking. Figure may have gone up for 2020 but as I say the underlying trend is downwards.

  13. usually when people get personal it’s an admission that they have run out of clever stuff to say, so they fall back on ‘ad hominem’ attacks on the person. At that point it’s often wise to thank them for conceding and make a quick exit.
    I’m outta here.

Yeah, it’s similar to when people have childish digs at an eminent medical professor. Double standards much? Bye

  16. A simple yes or no would have sufficed. He seems better placed to inform than Karen on facebook from down the road.

Edit: BTW my father in laws partner is a denyer/conspiracy theorist. It is difficult to understand why, but there you go each to their own.

  17. Two weeks ago we went by train to Liverpool ,about an hour journey.
Nobody had a mask on ,we did the same journey today and I would say 80 % of people had masks on .
There's always an element that have never worn a mask and never will ,they should be shown around the wards where KT works ,it's heartbreaking.

There will be other pandemics though, diseases that might be much nastier than Covid, and while we don’t want people dying in their thousands we need to balance that against not shutting society down. I know that’s easier said than done, especially if people have lost loved ones to Covid, or worked on the front line. I don’t work on the front line, I work, maybe a few lines back from that :)

  19. I’m still doing tests as I go into a lot of houses and I think it’s the responsible thing to do.

Now as the forum’s resident Tory voting hate figure, you’d expect me to say that Boris walks on water. But I’ve just been to the chemist to pick up a box of tests, and to my surprise I was required to produce a code before I could get them. From an NHS website. I did it on my phone there and then as I already have an NHS login. But neither of my parents for example have phones that can do that. So I was told if they wanted them they’d need to call a telephone number and register etc etc.

well I can tell you now that they wouldn’t bother. So I strikes me as utter madness that at a time when cases are rising, we are going into winter that they make getting a test MORE difficult. Crackers.

the pharmacist said she wouldn’t be surprised if they start charging for them soon. I couldn’t believe it. If they really do that then they want their heads looking at.
