If it has OG paint, this is very thin and the bottom green coat is very tough. There's really no need to bare metal it. If it has had 10 resprays already, then a brushed coat of oil based paint on top, there's no option. IMO.

  3. It's only the very edges of the arches that need doing so there just going to do minimal cut so has not to disturb the panel
,I'm not after a show winner just something that looks nice , I can agree if you want something to show and not use and be frightened to park anywhere you could spend 10k , but I want a nice usable tidy bus to go camping in and use , it's a hard decision when giving the job to someone but these two came up with similar prices , cheers

  4. <<<< This is a £9,000 paint job, (2013) MUCH better than the VW paint job when the bus was new.

£3.5k =100 hours @£35 per hour, 2 blokes doing a full week and a day! Doesn't sound even close to enough for what you're asking, and at least a grands worth of parts and materials.
They will either get part way through then start asking for more money or the quality won't be what you expect.
Oh and there's the small matter of best part of £1k worth of new seals you'll need because most of them won't be reusable!

  6. Yes think it's had a few spray jobs previously maybe just the bottom has its red now and was originally orange and pastel white , that's why I was asking for bare metal

  7. He's been recommended to me he tells me he wants it for 8/10 weeks he works on his own I've got all the parts ,he's just doing labour and paint , he gave me the price not me give him ?

@Dubbdubb - you are getting some sound advice here from people who know. We often don't get asked for advice until half way through - when it's too late .....

  11. I'm with you on the nice usable bus and no show winner part.

Well, that was until I saw the Pics of Tony's below the post a couple up and now I want one like that....

  12. I am taking the advice on board , but there's got to be some middle ground here , I do understand you get what you pay for , I would love to have 10 k spare to put into painting my bus ,but like I said it would totally out value what the bus would be worth in real terms , and I do want to use it not lock it up and just polish it on a Sunday , I too love the buses that are minters and onl dream one day I could afford one ,but until that day comes I will just have to make do with what I have , thanks to all

  16. It's nearly striped just head lights ,windows out ,brake lights out , he's taking pop top off ,doors off etc , I've taken all interior out myself , and will put it all back when finished at paint shop ,:thumbsup::thumbsup:

  17. Interesting thread. What is a bus with a 10k re spray worth do you think? Assuming the bus was good to start off with.

One more thing to consider @Dubbdubb is that it's a US import with a few coats of paint. One thing almost all US imports have in common is crash damage. The Yanks are very good with bondo because they crash a lot! If you have your bus bare-metalled any filler will come out too. Just a thought.

Mines on it's 3rd front panel (I can see inside) one on top of the other and that's stove in!

Are you sure the 3.5K isn't the miles before it bubbles up again?
