Clutch assistance required.

  1. I have been looking at changing my (unintentionally) oil bathed clutch friction plate for a nice new clean one but can't work out what to order. My existing clutch plate seems to be 215mm diameter the flywheel recess seems to be about 2mm larger. I can only find a 200mm clutch or 228 and neither of them seem right. Am I missing something?

  2. Forgot to say my engine was replaced with a gold AD motor at sometime and so I would expect it to be 200mm any help would be much appreciated.

  3. The AS engines (the very later ones) had 215mm friction plates. That may explain it.

  4. Ah that makes sense the engine was originally an AS as it was built 1978.

  5. I have found a complete kit for a T25 but only really want the friction plate. A bit more google should get it. Cheers

  6. I have a 215 as well! Coolair do them I think.

  7. JK used to do 215s. They do exist, for AS engines (which were used on late busses and later Beetles, I believe).

  9. Thanks all. It seems they are quite common after all. Cheers

  10. 76 onwards busses use 215mm clutches

  11. As i recently found out through paul
More expense as my flywheel and clutch is 200mm

  12. Plus something you really need with the possible off-roading aspect of Nomad!!

My first bus was a 77... that had a hardcore clutch judder when I bought it, took the engine out and the cush springs in the friction disc were all smashed!! Measured it - 200mm - went to GSF, said I needed a clutch for a 77 1600, guy was like that's a 215mm you'll be needing... So I had to go home and double check!! Turns out someone had fitted a 200 friction disc to a 215 flywheel and pressure plate o_O

  13. With all that raw horsepower on tap, you really do need the bigger clutch...

  15. It's more likely the weight of the camper

  16. Will the bigger flywheel fit the bellhousing on the 3 rib box i have paul?

  17. It should do... has the bellhousing got an 091 part number on it?

  18. 091301211

  19. 215 flywheel and clutch then

  20. Cheers paul
I had to drop the front mount of the box to read the number

What if a different bellhousing has been fitted to that box or the nosecone has been changed?
