Clutch and fly wheel removal

  1. I need to chance the rear crankshaft oil seal is this an easy job?

Plus can anyone tell what size the spline headed bolts that hold the clutch to the fly wheel are as i need to buy the spline socket

  2. the gland nut is 36mm if i recall...you'll need a hefty bar or torque wrench and also a flywheel locking tool...or you can get a piece of flat bar about a foot long, drill it out either end so you can bolt it to the flywheel, and wedge the left hand end of it against something so you can lever against it when undoing the nut...the oil seal can be prised out if it's goosed... fit the new one using a big flat washer so it goes in square...it's ages since i did mine so can't give you any more tips... :)
other than you should use a new gland nut and torque the bejesus out of it 220 ft lbs or thereabouts...check your manual...so to answer your original question, it's not a 10 minute job, but straightforward if you've got the tools

  3. vanorak, that names a blast from the past...

maybe mark the gland nut so you know your in the right area when tighning ,I have snapped a couple... block of wood to the drive the new seal in works and have a look how deep the original one is...The flywheel has also got a seal on it...

  4. I have just done mine, easy enough.
It's very tight, I used an impact air rachet to get the 36mm nut off and then on again.
And made a puller out of a bit of box and some threaded bar to remove the fly wheel.
Mark the flywheel so it goes back on in the same position.
For what they cost it's worth buying the tools to lock the flywheel and the big washer for inserting the oil seal.
