Anyone know exactly (through experience) how strict dvla are on reclassification of a van to a motor caravan/camper? I know you need a bed and window, do you need a permanent sink or is a bowl allowed, same with water, does it need to be plumbed in or are containers allowed? Also do you need a fridge? I need to get the T5 off these stupid commercial vehicle speed limits.
They are strict as one of the other benefits is being LEZ compliant, everything needs to be fixed as its meant to be a permanent camper as the classification is permanent. Go on the T4 /T5 forum for more detailed advice
It's boring on there nobody ever answers posts... But maybe I'll find something, I just wondered if anyone knew about the sink/fridge/water really
I did know the answer but can't remember, pretty certain you have to have a sink with on board water.
Here you go @rickyrooo1 https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...ata/file/412160/Registering_a_DIY_Caravan.pdf
Not sure about this. In fact i'm pretty sure it's wrong. Older diesel motorhomes, even factory conversions aren't lez compliant. But a newer t5 would be anyway...
I think you're right actually... although wouldn't a T4 or T5 would be over that? When I've put similar vehicles into the LEZ checker they've invariably come out as non-compliant. Maybe because they were never properly registered... or maybe you would have to have the weight confirmed in order to get it classified correctly...
I took the old rusty underslung LPG tank off our import Westy and decided not to replace it and use one of those little butane canister stoves where the old twin burner was - could screw it down I suppose in case they want to reclassify mine!?
