Choke issues on type 4 engine

My 2L type 4 with standard carbs, appears to have lost the choke. ..as in depressing throttle to floor, no longer makes engine revs higher when starting from cold.
I presumed it was a mechanical action that set the choke, so may be just cable adjustment. ...unless someone knows different !

Has a wire come off the choke.
There's a feed wire on the rh side on the choke unit.

    Will have a look tomorrow.
Thought just a tug on a cable was too easy ! Thanks for reply.

  4. The choke works on a heated coil

  5. That wire runs from the coil so maybe trace it that way too.

Could this be an accelerator cable/throttle linkage issue?

    I'm no expert mechanic btw.

Recently changed coil, so may have dislodged a wire.

  7. If there the standard solexs you should have 3 spade conectors on the left barb and 2 on the right !! The choke will be facing u round with spade connectors they can brake off quite easy !! Should all be connected to the + side of the coil

All connections are in place and in good condition.
The wires look like they were renewed when carbs were refurbished about a year ago and it is a new coil, so everything looks lovely and is attached. ....doesn't mean that it works though !
Are there replaceable parts within the carb bodies ?

Just been reading Haynes. ...it says bi metallic strip opens to activate choke " after a minute or so " , so perhaps I am rushing start up procedure.?

  10. I believe (perhaps incorrectly) that slowly depressing the clutch locks the chokes closed, and then they open slowly after start up as the element heats...?

The choke cam that speeds up the tickover is operated by a dab on the pedal, then slowly comes off (or in jumps really) as the elc element warms up, also turning the choke flap. On your T4 carbs, there is a linkage outside each carb with two little locknuts (M4?) I expect one fell off a long time ago and now the other has. Even with just one operating the revs will increase.

Thanks Zed....so I'm looking for missing locknuts...or rather holes from whence they came !
The carbs are nice and clean so I will have a look. .....silly question. ...where exactly am I looking ?

Something flapping about loose with just one nut and a hole in a bit above it should be fitted too. Near top of the carb just behind the choke.

All lock nuts present and correct. Tried leaving with ignition on a few seconds longer than normal to see if there was any change. ..there wasn't.
Lock nuts are on a threaded bar and gentle pressure increased revs. ..is there possibly adjustment to do there to increase revs, or will that just make engine rev more all the time ?

It should set when you press the pedal before starting. Perhaps you've been accidentally setting it and now changed your start-up routine?

Just depress the pedal once then start engine. I must admit that since having electric pump fitted, the noise does make me do the procedure more quickly !

The pedal pressing is mechanical, you can do it before you turn on the ignition and start the pump. :)

    What noise, when?
