Changing fan belt on Type 4

  1. How easy is it to replace the fan belt on a type 4?

Is it just a case of removing the alternator belt cover, loosening the nut/bolt, swapping the belt over, then doing bolt/nut up to desired tension on the belt?

    There's no shims on a type 4?

  2. Yep, it is that easy. :)

  3. WHS! easy peasy (don't forget to get some freeing oil on the alternator adjust bolt.

  4. Sweeeet!

    Next on my list. Cheers

  5. Took mines off tonight as I'm doing a bit of work on the van so decided to replace the belt.

Easy peasy to get it off.

Hopefully getting it to the right tension is just as easy.

  6. Mines a bit loose so gonna replace it rather than just tighten it up.

  7. You actually need to loosen the pivot bolt too (to do the job correctly)

There is a 13mm M8 nut on the back of the flat headed bolt, you get at this from underneath just near the rubber cooling elbow on the alternator!!
