Hi all, What do you engine builders recommend for sealing case halves? Will Blue Hylomar do the trick? Just that I have some of that.... Cheers Nick
You need something with virtually zero thickness as it affects the bearings. Silicon is a no-no. Most builders recommend Elring Curil T. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Elring-Sealing-Compound-Curil-T-/281010685005?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item416d8ac44d
I watched a type 4 rebuild dvd and the guy swears by Permatex case sealant. I think it's American, but is listed on Stateside Tunings website. The fact that they sell it probably means they use it themselves. http://www.statesidetuning.co.uk/partstype4/lubes.htm
I don't do a lot of engine work, so i'll gladly doth my cap to those that do, but i thought the idea was that vw cases weren't meant to need sealant?
Curil T & K2 both seem to get recommended, I use Victor Reinz Reinsosil on my WBX builds which works really well also. MM
Course it is - I used it to rebuild a 1600 and it was invaluable. I wouldn't use it now I know what I'm doing though. I don't remember it suggesting no sealant between the case halves though.
There are a few books that obviously there were some sort of back-handers going on... might've been the tom wilson one where he recommends taking out the OG SVDA dizzy, and fitting a 009... And as we all know, a 009 is not a good thing on a std engine
