Case sealant

  1. Hi all,

What do you engine builders recommend for sealing case halves? Will Blue Hylomar do the trick? Just that I have some of that....

    Cheers

  3. So is Hylomar Blue a no go then? I don't think its silicon based.

I watched a type 4 rebuild dvd and the guy swears by Permatex case sealant. I think it's American, but is listed on Stateside Tunings website. The fact that they sell it probably means they use it themselves.

  10. I don't do a lot of engine work, so i'll gladly doth my cap to those that do, but i thought the idea was that vw cases weren't meant to need sealant?

  12. Their machining was good, but not that good. Just needs a smudge.

  15. Curil T & K2 both seem to get recommended, I use Victor Reinz Reinsosil on my WBX builds which works really well also.

Course it is - I used it to rebuild a 1600 and it was invaluable. I wouldn't use it now I know what I'm doing though. :)

I don't remember it suggesting no sealant between the case halves though.

  18. There are a few books that obviously there were some sort of back-handers going on... might've been the tom wilson one where he recommends taking out the OG SVDA dizzy, and fitting a 009...

And as we all know, a 009 is not a good thing on a std engine :)
