  1. Can anyone help me out!
Had a busy week, engine out. Fuel filler replaced. New fuel lines. New intake manifold boots. Spark plugs. Set tappets. Engine back in. Fired straight up. Checked timing. Now..... The old spark plugs had gone black suggesting its rich and i think it idles a touch fast. The throttle adjusting screw seems to be correct against the cam. So I turned the big volume control screw in half a turn expecting it to slow and nowt! So what do I do now?

  2. What engine, what carb? Autochoke ??

  3. Choke coming off fully?

  4. Sorry it's a bog standard 1600 twin port with a single carb

  5. Yes right to the bottom of the cam off the steps.

  6. Zed

It should just touch the cam, someone may have set the tickover with it (like you did on earlier versions).

  7. Yeah I looked in a magazine and it said turn the screw til it touches the can then a further quarter turn? I checked by counting the number of turns back and then in again. It seems about right zed.

Try more than 1/2 a turn on the speed screw then, it's quite safe to go mad with it. ;)

  9. I'll have another look tomorrow.

  10. fuel screw is 3.5 turns out, air is 2.5 turns out... that's your base setting, you can go either way from there to fine tune it

  11. Fuel screw is the smaller one yes?!

  12. indeed it is :)
