car insurance - anyone know?

We had this issue late last year where my wife was driving her new car while we were still trying to flog the old one.

She left the NCD on the old motor and took out the new policy (different company) without NCD but explained the situation. The new insurers were perfectly happy for her to alter the policy once we had sold the old car. It worked exactly the same as changing address, penalty points etc. I think it was outwith the 28 day window but the guy waived the admin fee.

It basically meant that for a couple of months she was paying higher premiums for having no NCD but they dropped as soon as she cancelled the policy on the old car and moved the NCD across.
