  1. I am (or was) doing an order for elec. cable to do a front of vehicle re wire ,thing is ,catalogue from Co. shows cable sizes going up in I mm stages ,i.e. no 2.5 mm ,which I need ,so what you guys think? get correct cable from other supplier or go for 3mm ?

  2. 3mm will be fine.

  4. Automotive cable is normally listed as gauge not mm

  5. Quite often listed as mm² in the metric society we live in :) gauge is quite old school these days!!

I always run a heavy feed from the starter to reduce voltage drop and load, when making a new loom :)

  6. Iv fitted alarms, trackers, stereos (for over 4 years) and qualified as a auto electrician and never referred to automotive cable in mm I was taught by a old school guy tho, and did deal with a lot of American stuff

Just wanted to make sure the OP wasn't using standard household single core

  7. TA guys ,thing is ,as I need to do a front end rewire (due to an incorrectly wired sound system my bus almost went up in smoke) I am referring to/getting info from The Bentley Manual, which as far as I can see ,? gives detail in mm (wire cross section),so me not being as up to speed re wires as you guys I am concerned that by using "bigger" (say 3mm in place of 2.5mm) I am "unbalancing "the system? remember; you guys know ,I'm scratching around re this>and the only connection between the Bentley and any site seems to be the MMmeasurement , and as said it seems to be not really available(the almost fire on my bus was a p/o bodge,(fair enough) but if I rewire and same happens ,well, I"ll be ever so slightly disgruntled !

  8. Cable to large wont cause an issue, the most important thing is fuses.
You never want a fuse rated too high and every wire should be fused

  9. Cheers Kilmo ,coolio> a bit oversize it is (3mm) and yes re in- lines >reckon if p/o dude had fitted one, a near disaster may have been prevented, I am very keen on fitting them(and do)

  10. Bigger is fine, smaller not. All of the VW cable sizes are shown in cross-sectional area on the wiring diagrams eg 1.5mm2.

Vehicle Wiring Products should have everything you need in the right colours (including stripey), for not very much. And proper brass crimps as well.

  11. Ta Snotty , funnily enough ive just filled out an order via that same company .

  12. Bigger cable = less inherrent resistance which is a good thing:thumbsup:

  13. They are ace. They do PVC sleeving as well, which is handy. I've only found one VW colour they didn't have (forgotten what it was - grey with red tracer?)

  14. They also don't have the black with green and white tracer... but that's no biggy :)

  15. First World problems, eh ;)?
