Bus rage - then turns into a discussion about EVs!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by SkutterBob, Aug 20, 2023.

  1. Driving home from Skeg Vegas on a main A road and a young woman in a Mazda pulls to a stop at a side junction. Drivers window is down and she starts shouting that I should have let her out. I was towing, doing the speed limit allowed at 50mph. Why do some people see an old bus and instantly think they have the right to get in front? I bet tractors and lorries have the same issue.

The best bit is there was a line of traffic behind that included a transit pulling a massive trailer that too was doing the permitted limit and was a good two or three car lengths back, so not tailing me. She would have to have waited another 5 cars or so to join.

The standard of driving has drastically got worse and any old tramp can get chuckied up to drive a massively fast Audi/ BMW / Mercedes etc.

Every journey, however short, seems to involve idiots driving. I passed my HGV driving test this week. Now that’s an eye opener to how stupid people are.

  4. It was a Mazda 2. Not exactly your 'go chase the horizon' kind of car. She made the point of getting past the line of traffic only to come off at the next junction.

They see old bus, they expect it to accelerate slowly every time there's a junction/roundabout etc and they're not wrong generally. What I see is peeps almost pulling out because it's a bus before realising they don't have time and change their mind. In a car they don't do this. They really do want to be in front... then if they do go for it they drive 40 in the 50 limit - I was doing 50 before they pushed in where there wasn't room. I overtake them asap, which I can do in my old bus.
But, one 100% dead cert in any vehicle - if someone lets you out of a side road it will be a man, it's never a woman. Ever. Once you notice you realise you could bet the house on it. Ergo, I check and never let women out these days - serves 'em right, the cheeky minxs. :)

  7. Controversial...but likely true.

Tarted-up women in Audis are the worst. One nearly drove straight into me the other day. Couldn't believe it. I think the sheer weight of botox was affecting her brain. I usually lean out the window and shout "Mutton!". Always well received

A bloke shook his fist and screamed abuse at me the other day when I entered a mini-roundabout as was my right of way. lol. It was one of those they replace side junctions with and he was on what would have been the main road. He was so convinced he was right he kept going and I had to jam on the anchors while he swore at me like I was an idiot. It was a bad day for nutters, later I had a bloke behind honking at me because I didn't pull out in front of someone and get t-boned. I know why, it was turn into Tesco car park where 99% of the cars turn in but this one wasn't indicating so I waited and it didn't turn in + old bus = dopey git. I wish he'd been in front of me and caused a crash. I did a years worth of flicking the v's that day.

My bus favourite is when you leave a roundabout and there's 100m of two lanes. Car behind thinks they'll cruise past me without dropping down a gear. Wrong. They get level sometimes before they run out of road.

One good thing is that slow drivers do speed up when they see an old bus has caught them up.

  10. This works the other way too. I had a MK3 MX5 for a few years, and when my wife drove it she had no end of men overtaking/cutting her up. Mostly high powered BMW and Audi idiots with small body parts.

Okay Audis, BMW's, Mercedes are generally a pain, but Tesla drivers have a real erectile deficiency.

  12. Tesla drivers are all so smug until they realise that the only decent thing going for them is the technology as the car build quality is terrible. Also get a cold snap and kiss goodbye to your range.

  13. And they can creep up on you...

It's definitely not funny to unplug their charging cable and chuck it over the hedge. Not funny at all.

While I’ve not driven my bus for a while, all of the above rings true and the Type 4 with 40s was normally pretty good at keeping up.

where it did lack was in the braking…. The number of people who thought it acceptable to cut in front while your braking for a junction / roundabout! I’d be shouting internally the F1 rule book of “no moving in the braking zone” but I guess there aren’t that many F1 fans in my commute

Got to say in general 99.9% of drivers oop here are polite, don't speed, don't cut you up, don't overtake where there's no reason to. If anything they dawdle around in no rush at all. But I don't drive in the morning rush hour, if it exists here, not sure it does! If the limit is 50 almost everyone pootles at 40-45. In the 30 they drive at 25-27 and slow down even more for speed cameras! I'm one of the fast drivers in my bus. lol

I’m normally a chilled driver because it never normally matters, and since I’ve started driving the SEN kids buses it’s definitely not worth getting stressed about.

The ones that really wind me up are the inconsistent ones, who do things like over braking for bends or even if something is coming the other way then speed up or the ones that drive at 40 everywhere.

  19. Or people who pull out in front of you
As you are rolling at 50 and then they go slowo_O

I followed a driver the other day and noticed he was completely aware of his surroundings, planning his speed for a smooth journey etc. When ONE driver sticks out as aware and competent... well...
