Bumper painting

  1. Alright gents, at some point I'm going to get my bumpers shot blasted and was going to have them powder coated. However I've decided against the powder coat and I'm going to paint them the same colour as the roof.
To stop the inside of the bumper re-rusting what's the best thing to paint them with (insides that is).

    Cheers

  2. Mine are due to be picked up from the blasters today. I'm going to stone chip theback, Paint them with pastel white 2k then just put plenty of waxoyl on the back

  3. Same as the outside, as long as its got a decent coat on it it'll be fine, rust only attacks where moisture can get to so if your paint is non porous moisture doesn't get through and so it cant rust, obviously using zinc rich primer and alike before paint all helps and pay special attention to the sharp edges to get a good coating over them. (this is what i would do anyway, there are probably many different opinions) also while the bumpers are off get some waxoil in the deformation panel. :)

  4. I just think 1 or 2 mm of a rubber / stone chip protection will help where it bolts on to the van

  5. You can get powdercoating done in different colours it just costs a bit more if its not a Ral or BS colour

  6. I want mine gloss black, do they powder coat glossy finishes?

  7. They do chris but its not an amazing shine

I thought it was more of a semi-gloss type finish. It's been a while since I had anything coated.

  9. Every little helps :)

  10. You can specify for high gloss on ppc.

Had some frames n doors done and came out really well.

You could always spray the same as the front, mine are and been fine for four years, just don't be afraid and use plenty of paint.

  11. Cheers Alan what's ppc

  12. I was originally going for powder coating but I want a high gloss finish, so if they don't do that it looks like paint.

  13. Sorry ppc is short for polyester powder coat.

  14. Excuse my lack of knowledge is that any different from normal powder coating?

  15. No it's the same, sorry for causing confusion. Only put ppc to save typing it all out lol :)

I would suggest visiting your local coaters and ask to see samples of their finishes.

  16. some powder coaters will do you a high gloss finish... failing that, you could get it powder coated, then wet sand it and paint the outside... you'll have a more durable finish over just painting it/them!!

  17. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

I wouldn't stone chip them, the rear irons are a tight fit and the front one wil be bolted up tight to the deformation panel.
