Brazil servos - any good?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Dicky, Apr 24, 2013.

  1. Anyone any experience of these as much cheaper than the german ones. Mine has the earlier smaller servo so might be a better fit anyway. I note the stud spacings are different - any issue with this or is it a drill it job. Do I recall someone saying the mounting plate isnt big enoght to fit it or did I dream that. Only asking on the offchance that mine is goosed and I have to get one pronto and fiutted for the weekend.
    Ta guys

heritage / jk etc say they fit with modification to the fitting, note it also comes with a new master cylinder, I think its a bargain :) . what would you expect not to work etc ?

  4. The holes in the mounting plate dont line up so need drilling out to match im told

    Whats up with your servo?

  5. As much as we all slag off Brazilian stuff so far I have had as good a quality mechanical bits anyway as anything else? In fact the Veewib 'so called top end' components are manufactured in places liek Brazil and Mexico using the original VW 'German' tooling. If its good enough for the Brazibays then it should be ok for our 40 year old junkers! Maybe it wont last as long as the original German VW but dont think all German stuff is fab its not! They are the masters of cost cutting too.:)

  6. Possibly nowt but ive got a leak on the servo circuit - havent had time to find it yet but will later today. If it is the servo then I want to be genned up to get one next day rather than playing find the part. I may even have one that works but its a proper late one - bigger than the one I have fitted and not sure it will go on! Anyway for the money - if these are any good id rather have a new one I think. If I can manage to escape from work for an hour I will get to the bottom of it!

  7. I was told by a man down the put that the scirroco used the same servo ?

It'll be the pipe not the servo... from experience. unless your brakes aren't working well. Once the servo breaks it's quite obvious! But a leak in the pipe and it keeps working fine while overheating your engine and making it run funny.

    Dicky and paradox like this.
  9. Fitted a brazilian servo no probs, it came with a plate so that the new holes could be drilled in situ. If i remember one was a pig that i had to do with a dremel. Well pleased. Oh of course I should mention mines a left hooker, dont know whether that makes a difference.

  10. still havent found it though! runs hot, xhaust pops on overrun (just nipped that up just in case) brakes are just as they were before! I give up!

Start it, get under with a length of hose to your ear and follow the pipe, or you won't hear the hiss over the engine. Looking is futile. Otherwise, if the pipes are og overbraided stuff, just replace the lot, you'll be shocked when you get it off and have a good look. I will photograph a set tomorrow that looked ok on the van. ;) You can imagine though I'm sure! Popping could be exhaust leak unless it stopped when you blocked the take-offs earlier.

  12. Thought id cracked it yesterday but noooo. Will start again and as you say the braided stuff is a bit of a mess.

  13. Swapped out the old hoses but couldnt get any servo pipe so substituted some reinfored hose for now. All seems ok so far and brakes have improved too (better feel on pedal! Amazing. How many things can you find that are wrong on a bus when it was running perfectly well and has an issue. Christ on a bike!
