Brake pedal return spring replacement!

  1. Has anyone changed their brake pedal return spring on a RH drive non servo bus?
If so, help! How do you get the pedal assembly of the shaft after undoing the pinch bolt? I've soaked it all in plus gas and the like and clouted it till the cows came home and it still won't budge. Am I missing something obvious?
    Answers and sartorial wit welcome:)

  2. I'll go have a look, as I can't picture it in my head

  3. Cheers fella!

  4. I would say that you'll need to remove the pushrod from the MC, and then drive the shaft out the middle as opposed to pulling the pedal arm off the shaft... I'll go double check the bentley manual, but I'm not sure that it'll cover RHD vans

  5. Thanks Paul, I can't find anything for RH Buses in the Bentley manual, I'll try what you've suggested,I'll give it a bit of heat as well!

  6. I've done mine and it was a pain ......not only to get the arm off, but to get the new spring on!!

if I remember I used a small slim line puller over the pedal arm.....I think the back of the puller had to sit inside the front chassis leg (in one of the cut outs), and I had to wind it in through the cut out holes in the chassis leg.....didnt have engough travel so I think I had to use 2 hefty screw drivers against the chassis to gently but firmly prise the last bit off

  7. I take it you have removed the pinch bolt completely as the shaft is recessed to take it.

  8. Thanks guys for your reply's. I removed the MC rod as Paul suggested which allowed the 'arm' to drop so I could fully remove the pinch bolt then gave it a bit of heat, actually quite a bit, then clouted the shaft inwards with a drift and it slowly but surely came off.
New spring is now on and all back together. The spring as diddymen said was a pain, but I had a couple of ciders before hand.....well, it is Wednesday, midweek special!!
    Thanks all for your help.
