If the drum is going to be replaced anyway, you could carry on using hammer blows to the sides and face, avoiding hitting the stud threads of course. The dented back plate could be useful as you could use a hook tool or big screwdriver in there very gently to give some outwards movement. The drum turns back and forth so not rusted or stuck to the shoes, so prising, tapping and rocking the drum should get it to move. Maybe some wd40 or plusgas around the studs would help too.
Afternoon folks! I’ve finished my morning work and am about to head up to the van with all my new info I will keep you posted, unless I’m laid on the floor weeping
Literally I would like a Facebook livestream of this. Please and thank you. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
It's on YouTube, music is "Hammer Time" "Told you homeboy u can't touch this Yeah that's how we're livin' and you know u can't touch this Look in my eyes man u can't touch this You know let me bust your funky drum by belting it with a gert big hammer"
Well! I’ve succumbed to either one of two things - common sense and knowing when to stop, or a gradual realisation of my ineptitude I arrived at the farm and shuddered, for I could hear the sounds of lump hammer on metal. My poor wee baby I thought and had to sit in my work van and have a calming drink of tea. I then went to speak to my mechanic friend, having been forewarned by Sarah not to mention Forums or the man whose garage I go to for mot who I’d also chatted to. I did show him the diagram of the braking system and pointed out the studs. I do know what they are, he replied, (insert quite a few swear words in each sentence) and I’ve hit lots of these over the years and not broken one single one. (That was in my questioning using a lump hammer) I also heard a whispering of ‘soft mallet’ with swear words either side So, to cut a long story short. I said I need this for tomorrow or Friday morning, cue more swearing (good job I’m not an overly delicate thing) and we decided jointly- sod it, let’s put the poxy wheel back on and so we did. I’ve complained that we’ve adjusted the brakes too high and I like it when I can pull the hand brake out further and the foot pedal goes further down. This was met with short thrift and the point made that as I know how to adjust the brakes now I can get back under the van and stop bothering him I also heard mutterings of take it to your forum friends and do it there Sorry forgot to take photos of my hammering the back plate back into shape skill or video my almost constant forgetfulness when turning the adjusters and which way I was going with each one. In the end I made a note in my phone To be fair my mechanic mate has worked on my cars/vans for years. Each one he says is poo and I should have kept the last one as it was alright (it was poo until I sold it!). He also has bad COPD from years of working in dirty, fumey garages so struggles to breathe. (Just realised I’m not coming out of this well asking a poorly old chap to climb under my van!!)
Sensible. Hopefully no WD40 got onto the shoes. Give it a gentle test. You need your brakes adjusted up properly, not with plenty of travel. That's not good.
Maybe it’s evaporated . I shall keep the brakes as they are then. My feet are a bit small though so with a high pedal I can’t put my heel down
