Bosch l jet fitted but doesn't run

  1. I finally fitted the bosch injection system. Injectors serviced, new fuel/ vacuum pipes, new adjustable after market fuel regulator set to 2.5 bar (approx)
    I can only get it to run with wide open throttle (after a struggle) but it barely runs and cuts out when throttle released.
    Are there any top tips to get it running (other than "fit carbs" )

    have you checked all of the vacuum lines?

  3. Vacuum lines checked. I checked out the samba site...good info there, which led me to youtube vids on adjusting potentiometer!!
    I'll start checking aux air valve, cold start valve, ts2 and go from there

  4. 2.5 bar pressure sounds a bit low to me for a Fuel injection system.

  5. Have you tried increasing the slow running via screw on the throttle body, its a big round screw and anti clock increases speed. Check the vac pipe on the decal valve, also big vac pipes on the big rubber S pipe (its the one from AFM to throttle body) pushed in tight? Thought they run on 3.0 bar pressure.
     
  6. I think I read somewhere that the fuel pressure for this system should be between 2.2 and 2.6 bar.
    I did give it all a good clean so I've probably not adjusted the screws properly. I reset them centred and go from there?

  7. Forgot to mention engine breather box valve faulty and gasket not sealed can effect tick over. Also usa site www.ratwells.com good for info
     
  8. Didn't think about the breather box, its only the tin pot on there - no valve. I'll look to add an inline pcv valve too

  9. I'd check the Afm is in spec. The link should be on ratwell. See if the cold start injector is leaking. All electric connections are tight and corrosion free.

  10. Looks like the cold start valve. The thermo time switch sends a signal as it should but no fuel comes out of valve. I'm assuming it can't be repaired but I can't find a replacement
     
  11. Cold start valve only squirts while the starter is operating.
    How did you set the fuel pressure? If bridged the pump to run, the pressure should be 2.5 bar with the engine not running and 2 bar at idle.
    Have you got a multimeter that measures dwell?
     
  12. Used the Bosch l jetronic manual to test thermo time switch and plugs using test light, stays on for 8secs and goes out, so assuming switch is working.
    Fuel pressure is regulated by aftermarket unit with gauge. It holds at 2.5 bar while turning over and drops to near enough 0 when off. Cold start valve sprays no fuel at all when 12v applied and fuel pump running. Only have a basic digital multimeter.

    I’ve got a cold start valve, try increasing the fuel pressure by 10 %

  15. Cold start valve was unservisable so trying another one.
    Just thought, I rotated afm 90degrees when fitting for ease of installation (black cap on the side not the top) would that affect operation?

  18. Easy fix, I'll fit another bracket. I did check continuity of circuit board, had to loosen screws slide up board a mm and retighten as it lost signal in the wear on track...all seems good now.

  19. Shouldn't need a bracket???? AFM sits between S boot and the air filter box and is held in place by them.
