Not sure if the decel valve is connected properly but can't tell.

  3. You should have seen it with carbs fitted :)
Once it's running again I can tidy up the wires, some are not needed anymore.
I've checked various diagrams for vacuum hose layout, as far as I can tell it's okay.
No egr connected. no carbon canister although I do have one if needed.

  4. EGR not required but make sure it is blanked on the inlet plenum.

Carbon canister is handy for fuel vapours.

Look on ratwell.com for vac hose layout. Do you have a single vac dizzy?

Do you have the decel valve and crank case breather going to to the S boot?

There should also be a vac connection to the back of the air filter housing, have you got a proper air box to go on?

@davidoft will have one if not

  5. I do have an air box if I need it.
The dizzy is a Bosch 009 with electronic ign module.

Your fi will not like the 009! The advance is all wrong.
Sorry but we had horrendous running issues with Chip when we first picked him up in San Diego coz the idiot 'restorer' fitted a 009 in what he considered to be an 'upgrade' from the stock 205.
12 mpg and Marmitee performance all the way up PCH 1 to LA until we could get to an old school VW garage in Venice Beach who put us back to stock.
Nearly 12 years on we still run the 205 with points coz it just works:thumbsup:
In fact I ran pertronix for a few years until just recently and that started playing up so back to points again.
I'm sure @davidoft had a spare 205s sissy in his box of distributors last time I visited his grotto on Hayling Island?

Edit..sissy in the text above! Freudian slip:thinking:

  7. Found this info on ratwell site:

    Solution:

Unless you've also switched to a set of carbs that cannot power the vacuum can on a stock vacuum (SVDA) distributor you should switch back to the stock system. Luckily a Mexican Bosch vacuum distributor (043-905-205ZB) is now available (meant for beetle but perfect for 75-79 FI bus).

    Any good?

  11. I haven't turned it yet. I'll do it this weekend

  13. Have you still got that cold start valve?? The other one I had doesn't work either :(
I turned the afm 90degrees. No real difference. It fires but won't run without throttle and even then it's running rough. The wiper isnt running as smoothly as I think it should. I guess if I haven't got the right dizzy fitted the timing is probably out too??
Not a good starting point Wish I hadn't finished work early now :D
I'll ohms test the afm to make sure it's within specs
