I can't possibly take the time to answer this as I'm too busy finding things to spend all my money on :)

  2. The yacht broker was on the 'phone.

I told him you'd call back later, when you'd finished just sticking a probe in somebody's flue ;)...

  3. You will likely need a new gas feed also. The regulations changed a few years back. I think you need 22mm

  4. We got away with the existing 15mm feed, as the gas pressure was ok.

  5. I may be a bit gassy tomorrow. Is that any help?

  6. Would you object to @jivedubbin or @Merlin Cat sticking a manometer up your bum? They have to check for minimum pressure. It's only a rubber tube.

  9. I have been reading all this on here I fit Worcester Bosch boilers in my opinion they are the best there is, I would not like to comment on anybody's boiler set up without carrying out a visit first there is loads if opinions and facts in here but really you need to get a survey carried out by some one like myself, who gives a honest quote and advice, and before you all ask I carry out surveys free of charge as most quotes I submit I get.

So if anyone within twenty miles of Romford wants new boiler give me a shout.

I read between the lines that as the flue is the most likely bit to kill someone, only a mad plumber would risk the old, even if it still OK at the time, due to age and likely hood of it having to remain serviceable possibly for decades. But I have a good imagination.

  12. Technology, eh? The bloke who did our boiler had a very impressive probe...

  13. glad to hear it ,we are quite sensible lot ,but we do like to save a couple of quid to. You can by law only fit the flue that was made for a particular boiler ,this ensures the proper seal with the boiler .New back boilers when fitted are to have the flue liner removed for inspection and can be reused if in sound condition .you try pulling one out without making a pigs ear of it

That all makes sense - a Baxi flue is unlikely to fit perfectly with a new WB boiler. I think the frost stat is also contained within the existing flue, so that is unlikely to be compatible either. Luckily I live in a bungalow so hopefully scaffolding won't be necessary (there certainly wasn't any used 15 years ago when the current loft-dwelling boiler was installed).
Hey ho, I've now mentally prepared myself for a £2000 bill, in the hope that it doesn't go hugely over that with new controllers, thermostats, frost stats, potentially increased bore gas feed pipework etc etc. Think the propex heater in the van has now gone out the window for another year along with the seat covers

Thanks everyone, you've been informative, sympathetic, irreverent, and made me laugh all in equal measures. TLB at it's best :)

  17. you'll be looking at 22mm gas supply minimum

  18. Forgot to suck your teeth before saying it ;)...
