So building a big 2332 motor for my bus and was going to reuse my case as it’s an AS21 and not in bad nick. What I can’t decide is if I should spend 5-600 note having it line bored and machines to suit 94mm barrels and 82mm crank or spend £8-900 on a brand new case all ready to roll?! Buy new, obviously from a reputable source, leave the old one as a short block, if you can, and keep it as a spare. Big motors will always be more on the edge and having a backup plan makes sense.

Based on my experience I would start with a new case I took my old case and 1776 bits to a well established and very good engine builder, he inspected it and told me what could be re used and what needed replacing. The case was given the ok and I had a 2110cc built I drove it home and it felt great, but discovered a small oil leak. Discussed it with engine builder, whilst i kept breaking engine in. Engine was pulled to install a new gearbox, at that point the cause of the leak was found - a v small crack in the case where the oil cooler is mounted (Type 1 engine) An insert was installed which worked quite well (minimal leak) for a number of years. After many more miles the stud holding one of my carb filters came off and got trapped in the engine. Engine came out to be fixed, when it went back in the leak had become slightly worse - but still not that bad! So i'm still happy with my 2110 despite a small oil leak. If I was to do it again, i would start with a brand new case I would also make sure there were some velocity stacks in the carbs that should prevent the air filter studs falling into the engine, in the unlikely event of that happening! Do not buy engine case from Heritage - that's another story!
2332 will need a 84mm crank ,this takes such a lot of machining to accept an 84 crank would get a new case with a pent roof.
And if you want a second on what @paulcalf has told you, I have a tale of waterboxer woe from the same supplier. They sorted it...eventually but it cost us quite a bit in time and money
What did you decide? PS, you probably already know this but 90.5 B&Ps will have better longevity...? Better with a big crank and those for cruising and easier machining.

I was just thinking, 94 barrels are pretty thin, 90.5 are thicker, but it's your money, dude, your choices.
Did have a read around first and did some research and from what I’ve seen the 94s are ok not bought cheap either so not worried. Won’t be getting nailed either.......well not all the time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sure, just to me 94 is race engine territory, don't get me wrong, there's a hint of envy, when I say that...I have 90.5 in the Bug and he'll rip your face off, he's kicked my backside a few times. You gonna do BWA? Is it still running?
