Best value insurance

  1. Not sure if this is the appropriate section to post, but anyway....

I've a policy coming up for renewal in a couple of weeks so need to checkout the best deals

The present policy is Comprehensive, agreed value (£4.5k - they didn't require a valuation certificate ) and mileage limited to 3000pa. Covers myself and wife, we've both got spotless licences and never claimed for anything. Vehicle kept on the drive.

The present premium was £182pa, although the renewal premium has yet to arrive. Strangely, it doesn't cover me third party for other vehicles which has been an occasional nuisance.

Seem to remember a suggestion that a joint policy with the car gave a good deal, but when looked into, wasn't.

    Any better deals out there??

And what if the mileage was upped to 5000 pa??

And has anyone any experience of making an "agreed value" claim, either good or bad??

i have a policy with cherished - very approachable , 5k mileage and a bit less than yours ( actually it is a lot less because i moaned ) and had a special deal , it was £136 for the same as your's .

i once had a car written off by a uninsured driver , i went through my legal protection company and they made a claim through the uninsured drivers bureau , initially i was offered £1700 for my car which i thought was ridiculously low , i wrote and told them it was a very well maintained and scarce car and backed it up with picture's and garage history - i got the full £5,5 k by return post and a apology , they had tried it on . it was my only claim and not a bay on agreed value , what i did learn was - they have a policy of compliance that they have to abide by , they do not of course let us know it but they have and learned about it from the legal protection company .

i didn't even know there was such a thing as the uninsured losses bureau ?

  3. I am with Cherished, £175 for my 71 Tintop agreed value camping items and European Breakdown. also added the Single cab to it for £75 extra.
£4.5 k sounds a bit low for any road worthy bay, projects are costing more than that these days.

I'm with Just Kampers insurance, £ 162 for 5k miles and agreed valuation of £ 16k.

  5. To summarise. Fully Comp £5000 agreed valuation, protected no claims, 5000 miles myself and good lady both clean records/no claims

Just had an online quote from Just Kampers. £159 plus £30 admin fee and an unknown amount (- "from" £11-75) for "agreed valuation". Seems quite a lot.......

  6. give peter james a call. ;)

  7. I'm having a bad time with Just Kampers/HIC insurance so wouldn't recommend them. Sureterm & Footman James are very competitive and no hidden charges. (Half the price of JK)

  8. Thanks Ermintrude , I've just had a quote from them for fully Comp £5000 agreed valuation, protected no claims, unlimited miles myself and good lady both clean records/no claims. Just £147 !!!

I've previously had policies which haven't required an independent valuation. This one does, can anyone advise how this can be done cheaply and locally. I'm not in any club.

    Thanks.

  9. Take it to your trusted local VW specialist. They'll sign off the form then accompany it with loads of phots.

    Is your bus a project?
You don't get much bay for £5k these days...

  11. It's definitely not a project, but a good solid reliable camper. It was ready to go to Cornwall over Easter, no worries at all over reliability. The weather put paid to the idea! Just passed it's MOT today.

Bought the camper in 1996 for £2850. I keep looking at the prices they achieve on eBay, maybe £5k is too low.

    £5k def isn't enough then.

  14. Sounds good, I've emailed them. Did you need a "valuation" and where did you get it?

  15. These agreed values look very low to me guys!!!!!

Most on here may not have the show winning paint but a solid and sorted bus won't sell for £5-6k more like double figures!

I'm sure over the coming few years the Late Bays will increase in value and also become more appealing to anybody wanting to make a quick buck as they are not the most difficult to steal!!!!!

I'd say lift those values now and pay the little extra before the worst happens!

Also watch those mileage limits as I've insured Land Rovers with the same company's and its amazing how they want to see what mileage you have done over the last few years in the event of a claim!

Safe rather than sorry I prefer!

  16. I will have to have a think about values, I think your right.

Regarding the agreed value, all you do is send in some pictures from different angles. If they really don't agree with the value you've stated they will let you know.

  17. The quote I have requires an independent valuation. One I've found online will do it for £95, which makes the premium saving not worth it.

Is there a cheaper way to obtain an independent valuation acceptible for insurance purposes??

  18. im with JK, and to do my agreed valuation i just had to pay £15 and send them like 7 pictures that they asked for..

my agreed value is £3.5k, (unfortunately thats lower than it should be, but i couldnt afford to make it any higher :( )

fully comp, 5k milage.. premium? £1147.
and no, thats not a wrongly placed decimal point...

the things i do to drive my bus!!

  19. My friend works for "the insurance factory" and they did a great deal (£140 all in I think), they have moved into the motorhome/campervan/caravan market in the last couple of years.

Its not just about price at the end of the day, the quality of the terms is important too.Give him a shout Monday and get a quote.
