Best quality brake pads, which to use?

  1. Lol. Mine arent that old to be honest!

Looks like its the luck of the draw. Loads of beef on the ones that are in. Just doesnt feel right! Brakes are possibly better now than they have been for a while. Ive pulled a lot of fluid through the system. Amazing how you punp it through till its nice and clear. Do it again and its full of brown stuff again. Likely i will get some braided hoses on and swap the shoes and drums to some point soon.

Sound s like my brakes are poop. They arent but i dont think they are as good as they could or should be.

When I put new pads in my westy it was like the servo was broken. They even sounded hard if you know what I mean, as if the disc would probably wear quicker than the pads. There are definitely pads and pads.

  3. Kind of where im at. Tbh. Need something im assured is good before i end up replacing unnecessary stuff.

  4. Get your rears sorted, if they haven't been done. Use the drums and chuck everything else away.

  5. Your pads would have to be amazingly bad to fade during general driving.

Coolair's top quality pads do have good feel and seem to resist fade OK going down steep hills.

  6. Im abusing them to see what the limitations are and yes, worst result is downt a long (ish ) hill.

  7. It's the discs that cause fade, not pads.

But yeh, unless you drive like a nutter, you're not gonna get fade. Better to change brake fluid

  8. Fluid changed and nearly new discs (ie about 4k miles)

  9. its just a case of finding a pad that suits your driving style. Some need to get up to temperature before they work properly. Only good for aggressive drivers. Some work good from cold but won't work well when hot or will wear quickly.

I like to see them wearing out, they are cheap and easy to change. I can't see the point in loosing braking power to make your pads last 50,000 miles, I'd happily replace mine once a year if I had nice brakes, it's a tiny price to pay.

  11. Temperature causes fade, so you can alleviate the problem with vented discs that stay cooler, but it's the pad material getting too hot that causes the fade. Better pads work over a wider range. Performance pads work over a 'hotter' range, which is why they are rubbish when cold.

  12. This!
    Also
Im not an aggressive driver as such but was a bit aggressive when testing!

  13. Just a thought but aren't discs just lumps of metal. Mine are pretty new and in good nick. I assume you were referring to condition and not the quality?

  14. Both really.
Solid discs (like ours) are just lumps of metal.

Things like vented discs, grooved and drilled discs are an upgrade.

  15. You need to be aggressive when testing because a fully loaded van is a lot of weight to stop on a steep hill!

  16. Just standard on mine.
