Can I have some help here please? I'm thinking of going for a more precise gear change and have seen a few different ones on the market. Are the dearer ones worth the extra money?
i asked this the other day at a club meet most people said unless you car afford a berg shifter stick to stock
I think I'm probably going to replace all the bushes and bits that wear but I do have this strange yearning to know whether I am in reverse or not before I find out which way I move!
Gene Berg isn't a bad price direct from his website. $255 isn't too shabby looking at the cost of the CSP.
I have the csp one, it took 5 mins to fit and works superbly. It doesn't fail the handbrake and I can go 4 to 3 to 2 etc whilst moving. I would recommend csp.
One thing to consider is that the Empi shifter hits the handbrake when you're in first gear with the handbrake on, the Berg and Scat don't, but I don't know about the CSP. From Tezzah's photos it looks very close for the CSP.
It doesn't touch the gear stick in any gear when the handbrake in on or off, it doesn't foul it at all, it's offset and you can turn the handle to suit your position. I don't have any issues with it.
I just put a 'quickshift adapter on my stock gearstick, i was quite surprised at the improvement. i had previously replaced all the bushes that you can get to without taking out the engine and box and the rear coupler, this helped a bit, but the quickshift from Heritage with the metal ball bit actually does improve the change as well, and its only about £8. The reverse lock out plate may need adjusting or replacing also if its not 'locking you out' of reverse
I changed all the bushes, rear coupling and fitted a quick shift plate.greased up the fixing as well. This got rid of the porridge effect for about £25. Based on their other products I've used I won't be buying the Empi shifter but I was thinking about the Scat unit. I'd like to know how the scat compares to the berg or the CSP as they are both about a £100 more.
The bugtech needs some get used do tho,,83% or something reduction, means aprox 8-10cm movement from 1 gear to another, it's so fast your clutchfoot don't keep up
Ive not had any probs with my EMPI shifter over the 4 years its been fitted. for the money its been great and made a hell of a difference to the gear change. mine dont hit the handbrake either like everyone elses seems too
