I have a late auto box fitted to my van and when a dual choke carb was fitted to replace existing carbs, the dipstick tube fouled the manifold. the garage cut the metal pipe and replaced the missing section with flexible rubber tube of the same length. I have been having a problem with a delay in 1st starting up and having motion, which I was reliably advised ( that nice Mr Weeding said so ) that it was down to filter ( changed ), old fluid ( changed ) or level ( checked )......before I started doing anything else, I wondered if the rubber tube had been put on a little short, which would result in the dipstick showing full when it wasn't. Don't suppose anyone knows how long the dipstick tube should be ? i.e. from box to end of tube. Sorry for such a weird enquiry.....but there always appears to be somebody on here that knows the strangest VW facts.
Not a silly question at all... The engine should be running, and the box in neutral... This is important, as the oil needs to be circulating round the box to get the correct sump level And the oil won't circulate when in park
checked oil with engine running and box in neutral.......only driven a mile to petrol station and back......perhaps oil not hot enough ?
To be honest, not sure.....driveway slopes downhill, so never really tried to time...its always OK by the time I hit the road ! However, when I topped it up a while ago, it was immediate......but had slight leak from sump gasket....so it may be I need to add more fluid...just paranoid about overfilling. ( leak now sorted ).
