Apples

I've got Medlar's as well. Never had a medlar before.

 

I think it's been a good year for fruit all round. Am now contemplating getting a couple of fruit trees for the garden.
Apple chutney is good - if you make it now, it has to mature, so will be ready in time for Xmas. Dead easy, though takes a bit of time simmering.

 

I've got a son who does all that stuff - cook-aholic.

 

"Medlars are a hardy fruit that look like a cross between a small apple and a rosehip. When ripe, they’re hard and green. They’re picked at this stage, but aren’t edible until they’ve become half rotten or ‘bletted’, when they turn brown and soft. Harvested medlars are stored in sawdust or bran in a cool, dark place until they’re suitably bletted and have developed an aromatic flavour."

It must be catching! I've never been into cooking, but this year have so far done 2 lots of jam and one lot of chutney, with another chutney to do, and a load of elderberries in the freezer to do something with. I think I'm addicted!

 

The wildlife get more than us.

 

He works 16 hour shifts for Jamie Oliver and on his days off cooks at home. That addicted! We just had a full Indian and he made the apple cake yesterday as well as a quiche.
