    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

I saw them and said to the Mrs but I'm not paying that much, think I know somewhere I can borrow on on extended loan ;)

  2. We've still got a tortoise from my grandad who got it from Southampton docks years ago and it is well past 50 years old.
It's been in the family for years and wasn't until it got ill after eating something when it escaped when we moved house, we thought it was make but it actually is female. Only knew when the vet checked it over and couldn't tell at all.
If you leave them outside in your garden, the perimeter will need to be burrow proof otherwise they'll did their way out

Yep we have quite a few. Hermans and spur thighs. Mrs Tufty is the font of practically all tortoise knowledge. Although tortos are quite low maintenance you really have to follow very basic guidelines for their wellbeing..they are very endearing reptiles..

That's funny, ours is called Fred after the Flintstones but actually is a Freda.

Agree with @nicktuft as they are relatively low maintenance and can be quicker than you think:)

  10. I had two tortoises when I was a kid. We used to pack them up in the shed for the winter, but one year the rats got to them! One survived but now only has three legs.

She lives in my dads garden! Amazing little thing, goes into hibernation around October by burying itself under the flower beds. Then around April it just reappears in the middle of the lawn munching away.

She much be about 30 years old now!

There were wild tortoises where I lived in Spain. Very odd to see a tortoise wandering down a country lane! :)

We found it odd/strange when on holiday in Turkey years ago, it didn't half move in the heat.

  15. Forget it. They're horrible, have funny wee, don't do anything and they live forever (it will outlive you).

    Get a Border Collie instead.
