anyone know anything about fishing boats?

  1. A friend of mine's dad is moving back to the UK and is looking to buy a small, cheap(ish) boat for sea-fishing around Devon and Cornwall. My mate has been tasked with finding a suitable craft. I thought I'd post a thread on here, because you never know....he's after a seaworthy boat/trailer, with an outboard, preferably with a small brew cabin, and enough deck for four people to fish from...I know 2/5ths of FA about boats, but someone on here might know, or know somebody who does.
He's looking to spend about £2.5K

  2. id go for a dory , lightish , youd only need 40hp engine to plane with it , very sea worthy , just check bilges and keel and for any signs of osmosis. Hardys are good but more money and heavier boats. Theirs alot of boats about for sale, best bargains id say are away from the main fishing areas /harbours etc. A good engine is a must, Mariner ,merc , suzuki, yamaha, honda are all good steer clear of old engines unless you know the history and can get parts especially evinrudes n alike.Obviously dont buy a river boat , they are useless on a rough sea , but will be alot cheaper so you might think youve gota bargain.

Does your dads friends dad have a penchant for pastel shades and espadrilles? Can he be seen rocking Phil Collins and isn't scared of shoulder pads?

Then he sir, needs a Scarab.

  13. Not sure what his old fella used to have before he moved abroad, but he used to take my mate out as a lad, and I think 'Grandad' is keen on taking the grandchildren out, before he pops his clogs....so probably wouldn't take on a project.

  14. need a bit of speed for bassing n getting to the marks these days , icelander is a nice seaworthy boat with single vee hull so doesnt thump or bounce as much as a dory /wilson.2.5 k is not alot these days a 75hp engine can be 4k or more.

  15. My only real foray into sailing was on a beautiful old Norfolk Wherry made in 1907, a few years ago...unbroken sunshine and wild camping for two weeks...heaven:)
