Not quite there with anything to show yet from either the gopro or the quadcopter - unless crashing it into my son and making him cry is what you are after
The thing about Gopro cameras is that they are really versatile. I have used my Hero3 Black for snorkelling on a coral reef, zip wiring in a rain forest canopy and loads more. The thing is, have you got the patience to edit the film and then watch it? I have done a bit but its not really my bag. They can be a bit fish eye for landscapes if they aren't perfectly level but generally the video quality is astonishing. If you look at the link below astronauts are using one in a water bubble in space. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/c1go7zmXuk8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yes, was definitely accidental. I flew it backwards in to him so camera wasnt looking at him - but you could hear the rotor blades grinding on his leg and then him scream poor child bad dad!
@Top Banana Racing Ive been looking at the sj4000 on fleabay for a while now. It's alot cheaper than the gopro and probably not as good quality, but if you are planning to use it like you say it's probably all you need. Can you get one see what it's like, if it's any good then I'll get one.
Blowing the dust off this old thread from deep in the TLB forum archive! The boy wants an action camera for birthday / xmas (he's not decided which yet) he's got an ipad mini so I was wondering if there was a goodish cheapo version of the go pro style action cam that anyone has bought & could recommend which also communicates / transfers video via wifi to his ipad for viewing / editing etc. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated, oh and one that comes with a range of accessories like waterproof case & bike or scooter style clamps would be perfect! @Robo, Just get a cheap digital camera ( waterproof of course), attach to helmet or whatever with a shedload of gaffer tape. Hey presto, instant Go Pro. The shakey and possibly rubbish footage you get will only ad to the dynamism of whatever activity you're doing. No. No need to thank me. Its my job
Very tempting but unsure how well the boy will take to me gaffa taping a camera to his head though, but maybe entertaining I shall indeed not thank you as requested! I hope you get private health care with this job of yours, I suspect at some point you may be in need of it
I got a hero 3 black edition its a sharp learning curve, but here are my tips 1)watch you-tube to learn the basics of using one 2) there is a thousand permutations of settings to settle on 3) the settings menu takes a lifetime to get used to 4) once you have done all of the above you will set your unit to a required setting and probably never change it 5) battery life is appalling(unless i just got a duff battery) 6) remote control is a nightmare to use 7) it has no screen unless you buy it as an expensive extra - you can send signals from unit to your phone vis a app which is easiest way to use it 8) you will never watch the footage 9) you will put it in a cupboard and not use it for years , by then the battery needs replacing 10) what little footage you do take is spectacular quality 11) if you intend to use it in or near water add some form of flotation to it = these are cheap to buy- track down a you tube video where a diver finds loads in a day at bottom of a river 12) buy one - its your money - treat yourself, you can always sell it in a year for a fraction of what you paid for it hope this helps
Not to bore you , the videos are lengthy but they reinforce that of you use one in water add some flotation
Your not helping! Seriously tho it's my 6 yr old that wants one but he's not asked for a GoPro, he showed me another one but is basically very similar but whatever we get him it won't be a GoPro that's for sure! I was hoping someone had already made this journey & could advise on a suitable alternative to a GoPro! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have the sj4000 wifi as someone else has recommended although the wifi part is pretty useless really but it is a copy of the go pro and you can use all the mounts that are made for the go pro on it and they come with a good selection of mounts in the kit and about £50 on Amazon make sure you get a genuine one though as there are knock offs about which aren't as good quality I have used it in underwater and all sorts and for the price are good
I have 2 now, hero 3 black edition and one of the newer sessions, use them a lot for mountain biking and during water rescue training. I've never had any problems with them, it's excellent footage, versatile and speaking from personal experience can withstand a 17stone bloke driving one head first into rocks whilst biking with no damage. I can recommend them highly! John
