Or indeed similar style cameras, quite fancy one for the comng year's Bus adventures but I know nothing and as usual the Internet is full of contradicting opinions.
There are big differences between the silver and black versions of the Hero 3 and 4 versions. Go pros gained their reputation for the clarity and wide aperture nature of their videos......which is why they are still used extensively by the professionals as they are relatively cheap. The main issue I had with them is for cycling and motorcycling they are very bulky for helmet mounting and there are better solutions to the compromises available. Same for dash-mount - there are var cheaper alternatives out there if that is all you want.
I use an old hero 2 for surfing / body boarding - worn on wrist strap. Also for snow boarding on a helmet mount. As above, the helmet mount is bulky and you look like a teletubby in a shadow but the picture quality is amazing. Probably going to get the new hero 4 black one - Xmas pressie to myself. Great on video and takes good photos but very "fisheye" on landscape photos.
We've probably taken 100 hrs of mtb footage and watched about 2 on our communal go pro in the last 4 years.
I was due a hero 3 silver edition as a pressie agreed by mrs. Stock has meant I have to wait till they are cheaper in January sales. I went to a reputable place and asked the boffin and he said the hero 3+ is as good as most TVs can process. The more expensive ones need some mega bucks tv to make the most of the high quality recordings (4k as opposed to 3k). I got bored at that point and had the info I needed so stopped listening.
No - bizarrely they are not that different in how they look i.e. one is not all silver, the other black....the specs are different, the silver is the less well spec'ed of the two.
I did a track day last weekend (not in the bus) and used my mates hd camera which he bought from Amazon for £70. If the go pro is better than this then I would be amazed how much better it could be for several hundred quid more I've just bought this which allows you to use your iPhone as a remote for £45.99. IF it turns out to be Marmitee then it can go in the bin and I'll buy a go pro but if it's anything like the one we used Saturday, then it will be perfectly good for Anything I need to use it for. If you can wait then I'll take some vids and try and post them..... SJ4000 1080P HD WiFi 12MP Waterproof Spoirts Action Camera Motor Helmet Cam DV
I borrowed a helmet one when I did a zip wire ride. No idea which spec it was, but the quality of the film is very good.
Excellent, it's on my watch list, let me know what it's like. I won't be doing owt flash just like the idea of putting one on the Bus/bike/car/moped/dog/wife.
I've been using a GoPro 3for a year and love the picture and video quality. On snow I have found the remote battery dies quickly. For all conditions a second battery for the camera is a good idea if you are out all day without a charger.
i use a gopro, the time lapse feature is good but they can be a bit picky as to which memory card you use
Get a fast memory card. x10 I think they are called. My mate bought a cheapo one to use on his motorbike helmet. It meant the idiot who knocked him off got prosecuted within minutes of the police seeing the footage. The telling moment was (as he was on the floor) "You alright mate?" "Who knocked me off?" "What? Are you alright?" "Who F-ing knocked me off?" "It was me" Case closed!
No, but I've seen plenty of boarders with them on a selfie stick, taking footage of themselves creaming in on the piste this week.
I bought the family (eg Myself!) a hero4 silver for Christmas. Very impressed with it so far although haven't had chance to do much with it yet. Feel free to pop in and have a look if you like. The "Mobius" camera for around £70 also gets good reviews and the footage looks really good, but its not as configurable with all high the frame rates etc for slow motion as the gopro. Also got a quadcopter with a camera on it for Christmas - looking forward to doing some aerial filming of my van once i've got the hang of flying it!
