  1. Hi all
Just wondered if any of you are in the caravan club or similar?
We stayed at the Longleat site in the T25 a couple of years back and it was fab , toilets/ showers /washing up facility so clean. ...makes life easier with the kids.
So can tell the best one to join caravan club or caravan & camping club etc and their merits .. As in savings on fees
    Cheers

We are ccc members more for opportune sites as apposed to the general captain Mainwaring attitude of some of its members or the pretentious and condescending nature of its monthly mag, ohh, we like the little members sticker thing they give you for the van window !

  3. All I know is, if you're not a member (Caravan Club) it can cost you an extra £10 a night!

  4. I tend to see a Caravan Club Approved sign on a campsite as a warning and avoid it. I really can't be doing with being looked down at by people who's entire life is focussed around having better camping accessories than the people next door.

We stopped at one here that was run by the Aussie equivilent (Caravan & Motorhome Club), worst thing we ever did. Surrounded by behemoth motor homes & caravans 40" long.
The first thing most of them did was set up their satellite dishes, then go & sit inside & watch television. The only conversation we heard seemed to be about the facilities at various camp grounds.
Oh, & we were well looked down upon in our scruffy little camper especially with us sitting out under the awning & drinking beer

  6. Waste of time IMHO. We joined the Camping and Caravanning Club for a couple of years - "The Friendly Club": PAH! Malc has politely summed it up for me:

I wouldn't stay on one of their sites now if you paid me, park this way, don't park that way, don't do this, don't do that......

If your concern is finding good campsites to stay in, then we use ukcampsite.co.uk as a resource. We've found loads of really nice and genuinely friendly campsites to stay in from that website, and you don't have to pay to use their search engine to find campsites. It's also full of reviews so you can find out what a campsite was really like from people who stayed there.

We stayed in a CCC site in Cambridge. Never again. We called the place a Nazi camp and the woman was the sister of Hitler.

It's funny really with these places though that at 8pm they all dive into their white coffins and don't move.

And sometime ago l rocked up and ask a chap in a CCC site if l could have some water. The reply was to long winded to post so I replied "calm down biggun" and walked away.

ukcampsite.co.uk is brilliant. Use it all the time.

I guess it depends what sites you want to stay at. We are on a Caravan Club site at the moment - in Castleston, the facilities are great, people are friendly enough - not chatty mind. They do disappear to watch TV rather early, but the position is right on the edge of the village so we go to the pub. £27 for two nights.
Last week we were at Chatsworth, which is right on the edge of the estate.
We also go to Caravan and Camping Club sites which are well run and have good facilities.
They both have a lot of rules which may annoy some people, but we've never had an issue with fellow campers on either type of site.
Great when we go away for a couple of nights to chill out. Not suitable for a meet up with friends.

We have always avoided the club run sites and gone for the cl's as they are more free with how you camp and the people that use them more friendly.

  11. we are in the camping and caravan club which i have always found friendlier than the caravan club.
We go on weekend rallies and have always found people friendly and had good fun - in my experience though most owners of commercial sites tend to be a bit grumpy and bossy.
We also get a discount on our insurance as we are in the club. Result!

  12. Isn't the caravan club just a front for wife swapping?

  13. Finding this thread quite funny ! Carry on with your experiences hahaha. Must be a trailer thing. I hired a trailer to tow my rusty classics away whilst we sell the house last year and the guy was well.......... lets say he could do with a) calming down, b) going on a customer care course c) just relaxing a bit d) being nice e) Assume I have actually driven a car before e) I wont run off with his precious trailer! ffs! What is it with people in this country ?

That might explain the early nights and the drawn curtains.

There is an Eriba camped next to us with net curtains. Why would you?

  15. Castleton site is a great one.Keswick is also ideally placed.Depends how you take these places. We just keep ourselves to ourselves and use them to chill in a convenient location. As said previously ukcampsites website is gr8 & really useful.

  16. Joined the ccc this year for ferry discount. Some of the smaller sites are quite nice. As for site wardens, I d be a grumpy so and so if I had to deal with shed draggers all day:)
Try tapping up Cool Camping. Top sites on there.

  17. Stayed in the caravan club once at sandringham
Never again! we had booked with friends who have a motorhome when we arrived we were told we couldn't pitch next to each other as our friends wanted electric hookup (this was in October the place was empty) and as we're were non hookup we had to pitch about 20m away, no good for us as we like to sit out and have Bbq/ dinner together (told true warden this he described that's as "very cozy" and looked weirdly at us)
In the end had to pay a extra £14 to park in a hookup pitch next to our friends.
We had a visit from the warden who got out his tape measure to prove we were too close together when out friends had there awning out! And asked us to move.
We went out for the day in the van, when we returned the warden moaned at us for not leaving a "Pitch Marker" as I said the place was empty!

Most expensive site I have ever been too and I'm not going back.

  18. This is the sort of needless officiousness that really spoils what should be a relaxing and enjoyable break. It's the reason why, when our membership of the C&C Club expired, rather than just not renewing, I felt the need to post our membership cards back to them with a letter telling them exactly what I thought of their "Friendly Club"!

We're in the CCC, never had any bother with them, found most people like our classic vehicles on their site. We do tend to go for the smaller certificated sites though. If anyone wants to look down on our vans just because we don't have a small garage in the back end, that's their prob.

  20. :D lol, must admit I was informed that I could obtain a discount with RAC or the AA (cant remember which) if I was a member of the ccc, I rand and got a quote and then rang again saying I was a member & what discount they could offer?

The quote actually went up from the original non member quote & when I asked them they said it was because you got extra cover / service so they would them attend if you broke down on a site! I didn't quite get it as I had told them what I drove that I required cover for & never managed to get a suitable answer from them, so I took the first quote & didn't join the ccc :D
