  2. As already mentioned, a huge result as the neighbour agreed to let me use the double garage in return for fixing it up. So a few days and a weekend were spent clearing it our, building shelves and making it secure. Worth it though!

    10th June

Removing the roof to fit it in the garage, sorry more reference shots.

Currently not sure what to do with the engine bay side panels, maybe try and rescue them.

That's it for now, back up to date!!

Not sure when I'll get to spend more time on it!!

  5. nice work, that body cut would certainly have made things easier :)

I had similar rot under my fuel tank but managed to make some localised repairs...........it wasnt easy getting in there to weld and grind ;D

  6.
  7. thank mate :)

my thoughts when I started my resto was to take as many pics as possible in the view that it might help others...........when I was doing certain bits of work I could never find the right pics or instructions on how to do a certain repair .........so I thought I'd document mine as I go :)

It also helps with moral to see how far you have come :)

I also find the comradery good, especially when others have gone or are going through the same things as you

  8. excellent stuff

  9. Great resto thread and top work!

  10. Finally an update!!!!

The biggest news of all is the arrival of my little man George :)

So in amongst the screaming, dirty nappies, sleepless nights and a full time job I have actually managed to do a few jobs on the camper!

We're thinking about moving as we live in a 2 bed round house and although it's pretty quirky, we're pretty isoloted and it's very cold (expensive to heat) during the winter. As I have the use of the neighbours garage I'm going to try and do as much on the camper before we move.

    So, without further as do.......

Chopping out the rotten OSR chassis rail:

The rear corner has seen better days and if you look closely, the PO has welded a new corner on top of the old one.... great:

New outer chassis section grafted in:

New NSR Wheel tub arrived from Coolair:

    Rear corner chopped out:

    Battery tray looks repairable:

Battery try repaired and chassis repairs completed.
I finished off the chassis repairs before the new rear cross member arrived and can see that I'll need to adapt it a little but think this way of closing off the chassis, valance and D (?) post will be better as it's going to be fulled enclosed and welded up.

The other side to do next and that's a bit worse :-(

Delivery of new bits from coolair:

I have a few hours free tomorrow morning too :)

  11. Nice project mate, a little frightening but nice :)

  12. Wow, that's quite a job you have there. Great progress though. I have a question for you....

Are you planning to put a Westy interior back in there? If not, will you be re-using the floor vent that was in the gas cupboard? If not and it is spare would you like to sell it?

  13. Yeah I scares me every time I open the garage door :)

  14. Hi, thanks. I'm going to be fitting the original interior back in for a while so will probably use the vent again otherwise I will let you know. If I stumble across some mesh I'll knock you one up as it's a very simple thing...

  15. Spent an hour in the Garage last night and managed to make a chassis leg repair section out of 2mm steel.

  16. Blimey, Good work! Especially impressed with that rear chassis leg, it looks spot on! :)

  17. Thanks :)

    Here it is welded on:

Next job is to chop off the bottom corner along with the battery tray and weld in the new tub :)

  18. Hey Fella just read your resto thread some excellent work going on I will certainly follow with interest

  19. What a great job. You'll have it back on the road in no time.
