Alternator query

  1. Hello Volks

I have a 78 2.0L type 4. On my last trip out the alternator light started coming on as the revs dropped on slowing down or stopping. Revving the engine caused it to come back on again, but yesterday when I started the van (after a break of about a fortnight) the alternator light wouldn't go out at all (at first) but then did go out and stayed off as I was driving about with no sign of the problem I'd had on the last trip. Battery seemed fully charged on starting so can anybody suggest what the problem might be that was causing the light to stay on?

    thanks
    BB

  4. I think I'm going soft and lazy in my old age. It's this internet thingy has done for me. Why did I think it was easier to post a question on here than go and have a poke around myself? Sorry folks, I really am going soft in the head! I promise :crossed I won't ask any more stupid questions. I mean, I haven't even checked the belt tension, my old man would disown me......
