I was going to take my bus along for it's MoT on Saturday prior to registration and thought to just run it round the block. While doing so I notice that the battery light on the dashboard didn't illuminate at all. On checking the voltage I'm getting 12.4v with the engine off and 11.9v with engine running. I can't recall if the battery light every illuminated. Any suggestions.......?............Over to the experts.........
I had similar! The light lighting then going out is a sign that the alternator has "switched" over. Sounds stupid but check the bulb before anything else. Some (electronic) types MUST have a working bulb to operate correctly.
Instrument panel out, but it's easy. Reach under the dash and unscrew the speedo cable, loosen the four screws and pull the whole lot forward.
Go to the top of the class........not blown but dodgy connection to the back to the cluster.......as is the oil connector too!
Yes and it's good to learn these things while on the drive rather than on an epic journey! People on this forum are extremely helpful. Having previous owned a Lotus and been member of the 'up their own ar*e' Seloc forum, this is very refreshing.
Worth checking your charging voltage again, to make sure all's well. Without the bulb, it's unlikely that the alt will have been charging at all.
