Agreed Value

  1. Nearing the end of the restoration (http://thelatebay.com/index.php?topic=742.0) and I want to sort out insurance so I can register the van. I know what I've spent (too much) and I know that the spend is not the same as the end value, but I would like to have a sensible replacement value on the van.

Summary as follows: LHD Import Westie, 1972 (tax free), Type 4 1700 engine, complete strip down (all interior, glass, doors, engine, box etc. removed), repaint inside and out (a small amount of welding done) , all new seals, nearly all new brake / suspension / steering parts, rewire, custom interior (mostly new, part refurb with hob, sink, compressor fridge, Propex and 12V electrics with mains / leisure battery feed, 12V and 240V sockets) by J&S, poptop re-painted with new seals and new canvas.

    Sensible advice appreciated :)

  2. Can I start the bidding at around £11k - £13k ??

I would say more 16k to 18k, based on the prices some of the dealers are expecting you to pay for a potential replacement, should the unthinkable happen.

Have a look around for a replacement now and see if you can find a comparable van for sale. :)

  7. Owen, you normally have 2 to 4 weeks to get the photos in to the insurance... just check with them at the time of insuring

  8. To be fair - probably best to start high and wait to get knocked down rather than agree potentially less than its value.

  10. Sorry to ask a dense question buit what exactly does 'agreed value' mean anyway? We all know what my bus is (including the insurance company) yet they've given me an agreed valuation at 8,500 - I don't think there is any way I could sell for that. So what is the value of having an 'agreed valuation'?

  11. sorry again - just realised I'm thread-jacking :-[
