Advice wanted please - Jessops in administration

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by burntout, Jan 9, 2013.

  1. Mr B very kindly brought me a new camera for my birthday end of August last year from Jessops, unfortunately it has never worked properly and we returned it to the store in December, who have sent it of for repair, well tonight its all over the news that they have gone into administration and that no vouchers or returns will be accepted.

Does anyone know where we stand with the camera they have of mine for repair? Would really like it back working as it was the first proper camera I have had and was looking forward to getting some decent pics when we do our road trip?

  2. feel for you
another business down the pan whats going on in this country
i would have thought you should get your cam back as it will be a dif company repairing try to find out who has it
    good look

  3. Should be back at the manufacturer
Go to the shop and ask for the returns reference.
Take it easy , the staff there will prob all be losing their jobs

  4. Ah totally, I do feel for them, but I also want my camera back, if it had been brought in somewhere like Argos, and you returned it they would of just given you a new replacement no problem at all - will try and get into town tomorrow to the shop before it goes and see if I can find out! :'( Fingers crossed! I do have a repair reference so hopefully that is something. Did wonder if I was over worrying but really can't afford to lose it!

  5. Good idea
It will be under manufocturer warranty so be back with them.

  6. Good luck with that , betty very nearly got my new one from their but they was out of stock one i wanted so Argos. By rights its yours so your should get it back, try trading standards if you get hassle they are normally on the ball??

    Fingers crossed for you

Remember to remain focused when you go to the shop, whatever happens don't snap, make a mental image of the person serving you. Play it by ear and see what developes its all down to f8 really and may be a long process if all else fails tell them its not yours its Lens

  8. Kate put a load of slides in to jessops 5 weeks ago to transfer to digital ,which they can't trace .we rekon they are with another company that's probably not been paid and is hanging on to them

  10. I do feel for them, I used to buy a lot off stuff from them was so easy to look up online are reserve online then pick up in the shop, it seemed to be much cheaper that way.
My local 3 Jessops never seemed to keep much on display in the shop but when you look online to reserve online they had the bit there it was the same for my bag and tripod? What's the good off keeping it out the back it won't sell to the passing by trade there.
Bought the wife a camera from them for Christmas, so now will have to contact the manufacturer if any problems.

  11. you havent asked for a refund and you have already paid for the goods so they are just holding the camera for you or the manufacturer has it. therefore it doesnt form part of the administration stock - hopefully the staff at the jessops branch will give you a contact number and reference so you can track it down. do you still have the receipt as proof of ownership and anything to prove that jessops took it back to send off?

  13. Best of luck with getting your camera back. We're all to blame as we all buy loads of stuff (including vw spares) online nowadays ... no wonder the high street is a changing

  14. Jessops also sell online - have done for quite some time.

  15. Can't really add much to the above which is the advice i would have given, but I Wish you luck.

  17. My son asked for jessops vouchers for Xmas and he got £360 worth. Don't know how it's going to pan out. He's gutted. I feel for him

  18. I would be bloody outraged if the shops were still open and not taking my vouchers especially that much ,infact I'd proberly pop into the shop and end up getting arrested.
I did watch a program on gift vouchers with all the terms and conditions (can only spend on selected items and having an expirey date) they determined cash was a much better option.
I know that6s little comfort though Cabbieman :(
Hope something gets sorted but if the administrators have taken over it may well be too late :(

  19. The wife umm'd and arr'd about cash or vouchers but as everyone got vouchers she did the same. He's after the new canon 6d and he knew if he got cash instead he would have spent it by the time it would have taken to save up the rest. We're going to give him £100 cash to replace our contribution but he still has a long way to go. What really makes me mad was they would have known what was happening( not the shop staff necessarily) but still took our money knowing
