  1. New engine lasted less than 100 miles. #3 exhaust valve just been drained out with the oil in a thousand tiny pieces of hot splintery metal. Brilliant :(

    Beyond upset.

    Require much gin.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but...
Warrenty is one thing, but TBH it was obvious there were oil problems before the 100 miles - you said the oil light was flickering at tickover. I'd have stopped then and there.
If I were the builder, I wouldn't be too happy that you drove it fully loaded over the yorkshire ills despite the probs - unless he advised you it would be ok of course.
Sorry, but there you have it. I know the engine shouldn't have had problems, but everyone drops the odd bollock.

  8. Oh no, Zoe. :(

I think this maybe a crisis requiring more than just ordinary gin. I think this might even be a Hendricks Gin situation. :(

  9. zed can you edit your post please chap and remove the builder's name, I have never named him (except to you!) and don't intend to at this point until I can do a thorough review. He knows about the oil light - it flickered on tickover from the very off, and he gave us the go ahead to drive given that the light went off under revs.

Also in the interest of fairness, this is a quality of parts issue and not a quality of workmanship. Nowt wrong with the build!

Knowing that, wasn't my intention to out him in any way. He has a good reputation and though I've not dealt with him, by all accounts he's very helpful and not a shirker.

  11. Yep exactly what we've found so far. Am sure we'll get everything sorted but after a lot of money and a lot of time I am indulging myself in some wallowing today ;)

So would I be. Me and Sir Laurie have both dismantled and rebuilt my engine in the last year hunting a nasty noise. Me the top end, little and big end bearings, he a complete strip down and rebuild. Only done 1000 miles at that point! Both of us had a good rattle of the silencer but nothing until I totally thrashed it one day and the baffles came completely adrift. Noisy! I thought a big end had gone. All that boogering about and a replacement silencer cured all ills. These flippin engines are a worry.

  17. Gutted for you :( ,I had this issue with my new engine ,at least your builder will honour the warrenty unlike mine so it will be sorted Zoe

  18. and *very* light on tonic!

Sorry to hear of your woes :(
