A restoration for Iris

  1. Hi Art B, Answering ? above I have to say the arches you sold me fitted very well, but also admit my cab doors were so rusty they were not brilliant for gap ref so later this year I will know for sure. Front arch.jpg It's great seeing rust replaced with good metal. Great work Art and James

It’s been a while since I cut a big hole in the van so it’s time to sort the N/S cab floor:

    and a little while later:

The chassis is in excellent condition so I’ll just clean it up and paint it. The strengthening plate is heavily pitted and starting to rust through so I’ve made a new one:

The wheel tub where it meets the floor hadn’t rusted up too far either so I’ll only need a small repair here:[IMG]

Only a few hours on it today. Chopped out the strengthening plate and then cleaned up and zinc primed the chassis rails. It looks in great nick which makes a nice change!

Ouch! I'm just hoping the drivers side is as good as the passenger's was.

Some good progress this week on the passenger cab area.

    New strengthening plate welded in:

    New passenger seat mount:

Passenger Cab floor repair welded in and dressed. There’s a few pin holes I need to fill though. Really nice to be getting some big panels back in.

Schofield’s wheel tub repair welded in, to finally close up the the wheel tub. Quite fiddly to get it to fit right with the weird curve but it’s a well made panel:

I just need to dress the welds on the above and then re-attach the top of the arch step to the floor and this area is pretty much done!

Finished the welding on the passenger cab area Sunday morning by reattaching the step to the floor. Just need to dress the area and paint it, then I get to start it all over again on the drivers side!

Pretty useful. Just drill a 3mm hole through both panels and fit the pin. Then filll the hole with weld when done.

Passenger cab floor dressed and zinc primed. Good as new now.

I’ve also fitted the passenger seat mounts to replace the previous bodged approach of just bolting the seat to the tub.

Making a start on the drivers side area now.
